Obituary for Daisy M. Castro

Daisy Mae Cooper Castro 78, of Billings, MT passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday May 10, 2019. Daisy Mae was born in Crow Agency, MT, the daughter of Curtis Valentine “Buckshot” Cooper and Eloise White Bear. Her maternal grandparents were Lulu Mae Evans White Bear and Russell White Bear. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Cooper, Sr. and Susan Daisy Nagel. She was raised in the Lodge Grass area on the Crow Reservation by her mother and step-father, Harold Pease. She was also raised by her grandmother, Lulu Mae Evans White Bear. She attended schools in Lodge Grass then floral school in Denver, CO. She belonged to the Whistling Water Clan.

Daisy and her partner in crime, Kaneeta Red Star, were notorious for pulling pranks around Lodge Grass. They had a fun time together in their younger days. She lived in Denver & Dallas TX, settling in Billings. She was a stay at home mom and loved her children and grandchildren. She always had stuffed animals to give to her grandchildren.
Daisy Mae married William Daychild and they later divorced.

She married the love of her life Felipe Castro, Sr. in May of 1970. They were married for 49 years. From this union they had three children, Tony, Phyllis and Felipe “Sugar Bear”.

Daisy Mae was preceded in death by her parents and step-father; all her father’s sisters and brothers; her mother’s brothers, uncle Harry & Bruce White Bear; sons, Billy Dean Daychild and Felipe “Sugar Bear” Castro; her daughter, Phyllis Mae Castro; her sisters, Diane Cooper Lorton and Sarah Cooper; her grandson, Jarvis J. Door; and her best friend Kaneeta Red Star, who was like a sister to her.

Survivors include her husband, Felipe Castro, Sr.; son, Tony Castro (Rita); daughter, Lisa Daychild; nephew, who was like a son, Franklin (Charlette) Cooper; grandchildren, who she raised, Dacia Daychild, Jonathan Castro and Gabrielle Castro; great-daughter, Zalaiya Castro all of Billings; aunt, Romona Howe of Lodge Grass; special friend, Connie Jackson of Wyola; sisters, Sylvia Cooper Farwell of Hogansburg ,NY and Candy Pease of Lodge Grass; numerous nieces and nephews; and 16 Grandchildren, 37 Great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

We appreciate all of the support and care by Compassus Hospice Care and the care and attention given to her by her daughter-in-law Charlotte Cooper.
Daisy’s extended family include, the Cooper, Nagel’s of North Dakota, Pease, White Bear, Wallace, Max Big Man family, Moccasin, Reed, Goes Ahead, Evelyn Old Elk family, Agnes Holds family, Caplett, Rondeau and the Evans family of Missouri.

Cremation has taken place and ashes will be scattered on her father’s grave in Hardin, MT. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 3pm under the gazebo at River Front Park in Billings.
