Obituary for Delbert B Kunnemann

Delbert Kunnemann, 90, of Billings and former Livingston resident, passed away January 28, 2020 at Billings Clinic Hospital. Delbert was born on May 7, 1929 in Imperial, Nebraska, to Henry and Kathrine (Hansen) Kunnemann. Being the youngest boy of nine children, he spent his early life on the family farm and attended country school in Chase County before entering the U.S. Army on March 21, 1951 where he served in the Korean War. During his short time in the Army, he received the Korean Service Medal, two Bronze Stars and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. He was discharged on December 20, 1952 and returned to Nebraska to continue working on the family farm.

Delbert married Bernice Maxine Keller on September 5, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial. The couple started their life together on a farm in Chase County, before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1959. Delbert had a trucking company hauling hay and later started his road construction company where he built several campgrounds in the Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forest. In April 1969, he moved his family from Fort Collins, Colorado to their ranch on the Shields River in Livingston, Montana. He spent the next 15 years enjoying being a rancher raising cattle, sheep and pigs. Delbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, auctions, day drives and watching the Denver Broncos.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Kathrine Kunnemann; and his five brothers and three sisters and his great-granddaughter Nevaeh. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; sons: Kimard of Billings, Kon (Winny) of Billings and Kerry of Billings; daughter Kammy (Scott) Perdew of Billings; granddaughters Chandra Kunnemann-Siim, Chelsey (Dan) Stauch, Collette (Andrew) Kunnemann-Smith, Kristin (Nate) Richert, Kandace (Schyler) Bryan, Gesina (Boris) Null; grandson Kaleb (Kelsey) Perdew; and great-grandchildren Valen, Mikyla, Collin, Eleanor, Jayden, Amilya, Phaydra, Airyonna, Vincent, Addalynn, Sean, Konnor, Karley and Kelsey.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2020 at King of Glory Lutheran Church of Billings with Pastor Ben officiating. Graveside committal and burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Yellowstone National Cemetery, following reception.
