Obituary for Evelyn Arnold

Evelyn Marie (Ennen) Arnold, 91, died Thursday, February 6, 2020 at MorningStar Senior Living Community in Billings, MT.

Evelyn was the oldest of two children, born February 9, 1928 to Nola L. and Peter J. Ennen of Herman, MN. She grew up on the Ennen family farm outside of Herman. Evelyn was a 1946 graduate of Herman High School and attended college in Minneapolis. While working for a doctor in Belle Fourche, SD, she learned (and loved) to fly airplanes.

She married Robert Y. Arnold on November 23, 1950 in Belle Fourche, SD. A devoted mother of two children, she was active in Girl Scout and Boy Scout activities in Sterling, CO and Riverton, WY. Once her children were older, she returned to the medical field, working as a lab tech at the Riverton Clinic. When Bob’s oilfield career took the family to Vernal, UT, Evelyn was active in the Kingsbury Community Church there, serving as a volunteer church secretary for a short time.

Evelyn treated friends like family and family as friends. She lived her faith, and wore an angel pin every day.

When husband Bob retired from Chevron Oil Company in 1985, they moved from Utah to the mountain home they built themselves near Dubois, WY. Evelyn loved “her mountain”—Ramshorn Peak in the Absaroka Range—which she could view from her home west of the Dunoir Valley. She spent many happy years there enjoying gardening, reading, snowmobiling and watching wildlife. Since Bob was an avid fisherman (but never ate a fish), Evelyn became an expert with a fillet knife and made excellent beer batter fish feasts for family & friends.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Potter of Billings, MT; son, Mark (Marcie) of Marietta, OH; grandson, Nick (Sarah) Arnold of Marietta, OH; granddaughter, Angie (Travis) Harris and great-granddaughter Sadie of Lowell, OH; sister-in-law, Jan Ennen of Herman, MN; 4 nieces and 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, infant son, John E. Arnold, and her brother, Arnold L. Ennen of Herman, MN.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers and staff at MorningStar of Billings and Stillwater Hospice for their loving care.

Graveside memorial services will be held in Dubois, WY at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
