Obituary for Shirley Ann Hampton

Shirley Ann Hampton, 88, of Billings, Mt, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, surrounded by loving family members.
Shirley was born on February 1, 1932 in Mobridge, South Dakota to Harry Dame and Ella Larson-Dame, the youngest of five children. Shirley was raised on a farm in Mobridge nestled along the Missouri River.
In 1950, Shirley was united in marriage to Carm Hampton in Miles City, Mt. The couple made their permanent home in Billings, Mt., where they raised four children. In 1961, Carm and Shirley purchased Sandy’s Drive-in and operated the successful business for several years. In 1972, the Hamptons repurposed the Round Barn in Red Lodge, Mt. into a family style restaurant.
Shirley loved entertaining and taking care of her family. She planned annual Easter-eggs hunts, Santa Claus sightings, and trips to South Dakota. Every Christmas Eve, she treated them to her homemade turkey noodle soup. Shirley was a permeant fixture at celebrations, showers, and the sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Shirley was a devoted, long-time member of American Lutheran Church where she worked as a kitchen manager, catering hundreds of funerals and supporting grieving families. Shirley also enjoyed square dancing, playing pinochle, quilting, and dining out, especially in establishments known for having good fried chicken. Shirley will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Carm Hampton, and daughter, Gwenda Heimbichner. Shirley is survived by her sons, Larry (Linda) Hampton and Roger (Dawn) Hampton of Billings, Mt, daughter, Jennifer (Scot) Ireton of Billings; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; great-great grandmother of one. A celebration of life will be held on a date to be announced at American Lutheran Church in Billings.
