Ronald Flugstad was born and raised in Billings Montan and grew up in the neighborhood between Billings West High School and Lewis and Clark Jr High. Ronald was active in competitive swimming and tennis throughout high school. This was the time that Ronald developed a strong bond with Montana and the city of Billings in particular.


As Ronald moved into adulthood, he completed a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a master's degree in business administration. Armed with an education he ventured out of the Billings area with his first stop in Denver and then Denver to Eugene, OR Eugene to Phoenix, and then Phoenix to Portland, OR and throughout this journey he never let go of the dream to one day return to Billings. It was some 25 years ago that he met Elizabeth Mason and she became his partner for the remainder of his journey. Some 12 years ago Ronald and Liz moved to Billings.


38 years ago Ronald welcomed his son, Arjay Eve, into his life and whom he loved dearly. Through their time together Ronald was a loving and supportive dad doing everything he could to provide opportunities and passing along all the qualities and characteristics that have a rich family history. Things such as honesty, integrity, hard work, the value of an education.


7 years ago Ronald was diagnosed with cancer and thus the long battle began. There were good days and bad days through this battle but through it all Ronald fought courageously and maintained a positive spirit as much as possible.


It is with great sadness the family announces that Ronald passed away on Aug 12th, 2023. He is survived by son Arjay Eve, partner Elizabeth Mason, sister Joan Decker and brothers Robert and Randall. There will be a graveside service held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on August 17th at 1:00 pm.

Arjay and family, I am so sorry that I was out of town and missed Ron’s service. Your dad and I were doubles partners in high school and friends on and off the courts. He carried us, to be perfectly honest, with a lovely forehand and a fluid, graceful game. He never showed nerves, was always cool and unhurried under pressure. And, although I’m sure he was frustrated with me at times, he never showed it. I have these beautiful memories of him, in the sunshine on the lower courts at Pioneer Park, playing great shot after great shot, putting it away on a thundering overhead. And that’s how I will remember him.

We grew up on Miles Avenue neighborhood and enjoyed playin basketball at your dad’s home. I remember how nice his might was. He was on the swim team with my brothers. Prayers for you from the STEVENS family

Elizabeth, Arjay, and family, I am sorry for your loss. I was blessed to know Ron from working with him for almost three years at the Western Sugar facility in Billings. He was one of the best people I knew at the company. I learned a lot from Ron both personally and professionally. He was excited for me to move to Denver in 2018 and offered advice on building a life here. He had a fascinating life and career, yet seemed relatable to everyone.
