Obituary
Carol Arlene Kemmis passed away at home on September 11, 2023, in Billings, Montana. Carol was born January 12, 1934, in Fargo, North Dakota to Harry T. and Hazel Evangeline Victoria Aspengren Sands. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Winthrop, Minnesota. Carol received her early schooling in Wilmar, Minnesota. At age 12, she moved with her mother and sister to Billings, Montana, attending school there, and graduating from Senior High School in 1952. She enjoyed being active in Tennis during her high school years. Following graduation, she attended Eastern Montana College for one year.
In 1953, Carol married Larry Barnett, having children together: Cary Barnett, Kimberly Lamdin, and Konnie Jansma. She worked for the Bureau of Land Management from 1961 to 1966. In 1964, she married Dennis Vaughan, having children together: Michael and Karen Vaughan. Dennis later passed away in 1974.
Carol returned to work for the Bureau of Land Management in 1976, through her retirement in 1994. While working for the Bureau of Land Management, she met Ernest L. Kemmis and the two married in 1978. Ernie soon became comfortably settled within the new home with Carol and her children. Michael wasn't too sure about their new dad yet, but Karen snuggled right up to Ernie. Life went on as the children grew to adults, Mike worked at Perkins and Karen, having graduated with a journalism degree from MSUB, worked for the Billings Gazette.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Milton, Harry, and Kenneth; sister: Eilene Streaker; children: Michael and Karen.
Carol is survived by her husband Ernie; daughters: Konnie Jansma (Rick), Kim Lamdin (Bill); son: Cary Barnett (Renae); stepchildren: Teri Pipe (Jim), and Ron (Ginny) Kemmis; grandchildren: Steven Barnett (Jessica), Elizabeth Afsari (Mani), Grace and John Lamdin, Lucas Britt (Nicole), and Alyssa Hiller (Morgan); great-grandchildren: Colton Barnett, Caroline Afsari, Jackson and Emerson Hiller.
A Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 25, at Dahl Funeral Chapel. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am. Carol will be laid to rest at Mountview Cemetery in Billings, Montana.
