Obituary
Mary Lynn Young, 63, of Billings, Montana passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 12, 2023 after a long battle with COPD. She was born in Billings on November 20, 1959 and raised by Wes and Ardys Parr, who adopted her in 1981. She attended Senior High School, graduating in 1978, and completed a year of college at the University of Montana in Missoula where she majored in Journalism. She worked at the Billings Gazette and St. Vincent's ER as an admitting clerk when she began dating Raymond Young, whom she wed in September 1981. Married for 29 years before separating in 2010, they had 3 children: Raelynn, Lacy, and Corey. Mary quit working in December of 1984 to be a stay-at-home parent and returned to the workforce in August 1997. She was hired at St. Vincent Hospital again where she worked in medical records for many years, then transitioned to the Hematology/Oncology Center of the Northern Rockies, and finally ended up at St. Vincent Healthcare Pain Center.
In December 2010, Mary started dating Jack Jones, Jr. and lived happily with him and their 2 dogs, Max and Precious, until the very end, giving him 13 amazing years of love and companionship. She loved crafting and many of her friends and family were blessed with cards, gifts, and small projects of hers that she loved to create. She enjoyed listening to Journey and watching That 70s Show, enjoying her favorite snacks, and drinking ice-cold Coca-Cola. One of the great joys in her life was being able to provide daycare for her grandchildren, Lorelei and Colt, while they were living in Billings.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wes and Ardys Parr, and her Uncle Jack (Frances) Parr. She is survived by her longtime partner and love, Jack Jones, Jr., children Raelynn (Josh) Doggett, Lacy Young, and Corey (Sami) Young, grandchildren Lorelei and Colt Young, and Joslynn and Rowan Doggett, sisters Janet Thom and Sandra Gonzales and their families, brothers Frank, Robert, and Ronnie Hagel and their families, Aunt Margie Marasco, Aunt Lola Day, Aunt Mary Ann McSloy, Uncle Lloyd Hartford, and cousins John Parr, Kevin Templeton, Dolly Hines, and Lynn Noel.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Mary's life on September 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite local animal shelter in Mary's honor.
