Sheryl Katherine Kinn, 77, passed away October 23, 2023, surrounded by her family at the Billings Clinic Hospital in Billings MT. Sheryl was born February 25th, 1946 in Minot ND to Gordon and Alice (Thompson) Nelson.
Sheryl started school in Elbowoods, ND, and went to grade school at White Shield, ND. Her Dad, Gordon Nelson, worked for Schultz & Lindsey Construction so she did a lot of traveling in her younger years and met a lot of great friends. She attended some of her senior year in Laurel, MT, and mid-year, moved back to Garrison ND to help take care of her Grandpa. In May of 1964, Sheryl graduated from High School at Garrison, ND. After graduation, Sheryl attended College in Minot, ND.
On June 20th, 1966, Sheryl married the love of her life, Alvin Kinn in Garrison ND. Sheryl worked at McLean Electric Co-op and Alvin worked at the local newspaper McLean County Independent in Garrison ND. This is where they made their first home and started their family. Clayton was born in 1967, Byron in 1968 and Richard in 1969 in Garrison ND. In 1972, they decided to try something new and moved to Colstrip, MT, where Alvin helped build the Power Plants. Colstrip is where there were two more little boys added to their family, Kevin in 1976 and Michael in 1977. They were born in Billings, MT. When the job in Colstrip was finished, they moved to Laurel, MT, and have lived in that area ever since.
Sheryl is survived by her husband of 57 years, Alvin Kinn, their 5 boys, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, Clayton (Danita Holmes), Grandchildren Austin (Bailey Castillo), Great Grandchild Myles-1, Grandchildren Dalton, and Colton; Byron (Carrie Hurley), Grandchildren Cody (Daizey Baxter), Great Grandchildren Chloe-10 and Luella-5, Grandchildren Katie and Kyle; Richard, Grandchildren Mathew Felde, Jesse, and Breanna; Kevin (Trina Eckhart); Michael (Jodi Lehmann), Grandchildren Kelly and Brandon; 4 sisters and 1 brother, Norma Anderson, Randy, and David; Naomi and Orlien Kinn, Keith and Loretta; Shirley and Bill Dygert, Will and Joe; Rita and Ron Dinehart, Miha, Emily, and Derrick; Gordon and JoAnn Nelson, Tiffany and Brittney and many more nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, extended family and friends.
Sheryl was preceded in death by her father Gordon Ray Nelson (May 24th, 1987) her mother Alice Emily (Thompson) Nelson (January 10th, 2000), and her nephew Jason Owen Kinn (November 26th, 2012).
