Joyce Good Luck

Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend Joyce Muriel Good Luck went home to be with the Lord on November 26th, 2023 at the Billings Clinic after an extended illness. Arrowhead Woman, a name given to her by the late Philomena Five, was born on December 9th, 1943 to Louis “Tex” and Alice (Iron) Good Luck Sr in Crow Agency, Montana. She was a member of the Ties the Bundle clan and a child of the Piegan clan.

Joyce spent her early childhood in California, Washington, and Texas with her parents during the relocation period. She returned to Montana and remained here until her passing.

She completed high school from Haskell Indian School in Lawrence, Kansas. She completed her Nurses Aide training in Los Angeles, California. She completed her Welding training at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota. She also attended Eastern Montana College.

Joyce was employed with the Crow Tribe and served as a Secretary during the late Forest Horn administration. She would take pride in setting up for the quarterly council meetings at the old round hall. She also was employed as a welder at the Sarpy Coal mine. She was later employed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs until she retired in 2016.

Joyce loved our Big Horn Mountains taking numerous trips to camp, picnic and watch sunrises and sunsets at Windy Point and Youth camp. She loved to go up with sisters Annabelle and Angela to roast a steak and drink coffee as a favorite pass-time.

She traveled to the Holy Land with her sisters and the Crow intercessory team in 2010. It was the highlight of her international prayer assignment and ministry. Then in 2018, she traveled with her niece Verly to pray at the United Nations, New York City, New York. Recently, she was very active with her niece Verly in starting the “Crow All Night Prayer Movement”, doing bible studies and revival meetings on and off the Crow reservation. She loved going to prayer meetings and looked forward to it monthly.

After retirement, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play basketball. Her and Dorothy Jefferson would be in line waiting to see their granddaughter, Ivery, play for the Hardin Lady Bulldogs. She could be heard yelling in the crowd often over the voices of others. She was an Auntie mom to all of her nieces and nephews driving to check on them and visit with them.

She was called Kaale by many including Kyle (Farol), McKenna, Jesse, Tahree, Tahneya, Natasha (Adriano), Corey (Violet), Ares, Hyrum, Athena, Nakia, Keyonna, Phyllis, David Jr., Camrie, Alice, Avery, Addilyn, Israel, Lilly, Brady, November Rain, Landon, Blake, Caleb, Shaylei, Kaylor, Kesslyn, Heston, Alysha, Chezney, Brody, Tobin, Valeena, Amaris, Zanen, Kalen, Ivery, Taneal, Tines, Tyus, Cora and Lyla; special friends Joyce and Judy Moccasin, Lucille Other Medicine and Melvina Dawes, traditional nieces, nephews, and grandchildren too numerous to name.

Her extended family includes the Good Luck, Bright Wings, Little Owl, Iron, Walks Over Ice, Leider, Spotted, Brass, Otter Stays in the Water, Star Black Hawk, Yellowmule, Hunts the Arrow, and Red Wolf families. Joyce's family is large and we apologize if we have missed anyone in our grief.

The family would like to thank her CHR drivers Evelyn Jefferson, Cornelia Medicine Horse, and Renita Hill. The family would also like to thank the amazing nurses at Billings Clinic ICU and 4th Floor Palliative Care for caring for Joyce in her last days.
