Obituary
Raymond Edward Markwald completed his journey to heaven Monday, January 1, 2024. Ray was born September 6, 1943, in Butte, MT to Barney & Doris Markwald (Gill).
Ray's early years were spent in Butte, MT with his three brothers (David, Russ & Carl) and willing neighbourhood cohorts in the daily shenanigans of life filled with sports (both of Ray's parents were involved in athletics), cars, jokes, and general tomfoolery. Of note, Ray was an avid swimmer, a member of the Butte High Championship Football Team and became a Golden Bee (50 years).
Ray went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1964 – 1967. Upon his return, Ray went right to work, supporting his family and widening his experience & knowledge in various fields with much success. A sheriff, an account executive at Motorola, a sheet metal worker, a branch manager for an HVAC supply company, and finishing his career in executive management. Ray also completed his Bachelor of Business along the way.
On December 20, 1979, he was wed to Lila Ann Biehl (Evanson). They raised her three sons (Dan, David & Michael) and his three children (Janel, Brian & Holli) in Missoula, Bainbridge Island, WA, Orlando, FL, Atlanta, GA, and Billings, MT. Along with a passel of kids, there has always been a passel of wonderful dogs – Ray had a great love & talent with furry family members.
Ray and Lila attended the Calvary Chapel of Billings. They very much enjoyed their Church Family and Ray was active in supporting the community – physically & spiritually.
Ray is survived by his brothers, David of Bremerton, WA, and Russ of Sidney, MT as well as his children, Dan Biehl of Miles City, MT Janel Butler of Millarville, AB, David Biehl of Abilene, TX, Brian Markwald of Billings, MT, Holli Markwald of Victoria, BC and Michael Biehl of N. Mankato, MN and many precious, loved grand & great-grandchildren.
Please join us for a celebration of his life this Saturday, Jan. 6 @ 11 a.m., at Calvary Chapel Billings with Pastor Kyle Skinner. Located at: 2121 S 48th St. SW, Billings MT 59106 Refreshments are to be served after the service.
