Walter Reller

Walter Jon Reller, 61, passed away on January 10, 2024 in Billings, MT following complications from a severe brain bleed.

Walter was born on January 28, 1962 in Sandpoint, ID to Joseph and Frances Reller. He attended Monforton Elementary School in Bozeman, MT and Belgrade High School, graduating with the Class of 1980. He went on to obtain a BA in Art Education/Minor in Industrial Arts at MSU Bozeman in 1985.

His faith led him overseas to China to teach ESL (English as a Second Language), and he met his future wife, Shirley Yee, during training. In 1994, they moved to Scobey, MT, where he taught Art at Scobey Schools for 7 years. They were blessed with three wonderful children: Lindsay, Keenan and Taylor. He pursued his ambition of being an independent artist for a time, using various mediums from watercolors and block printing to ceramics and metal work. He returned to Scobey High School as the Industrial Arts/shop teacher for the past 11 years.

His many other interests included hunting, fishing, sailing, history, antiques, gardening, photography and more. Walt had a joy of learning and was always developing new skills. He enjoyed sharing that knowledge and his creativity with his family, friends, co-workers and students.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Anthony Reller, Sr., his older brother, Joseph Anthony Reller, Jr. and an unborn child in miscarriage. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, his children, Lindsay, Keenan and Taylor, his mother, Frances Reller, his brothers: Bob (Starr), Howard, Don (Kathy) and David (Val) Reller and many nephews and nieces.

Burial services of ashes will be held this spring/summer in Bozeman. A memorial service is planned in Scobey on February 24, 2024 at Scobey Schools.
