Charles Netterberg

On Saturday, January 13, 2024, Charles “Sonny” Joseph Netterberg passed away at the age of 84. He was born in Opportunity, MT February 14, 1939, to Charles and Georgia Netterberg. He attended School in Billings and graduated in the class of 1957 from Billings Central Catholic High School where he played basketball and football. He continued his education for two years at Eastern Montana College and graduated from Montana State University in 1962 with a degree in industrial technology. After college, he enlisted in the US Navy and attended flight school in Pensacola, FL. He served in a Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron called the Zappers. Chuck was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal, which he received for his bravery aboard the USS Oriskany during a violet fire onboard. He also earned many other air medals during his six-and-a-half years in the armed services. After his service in the Navy, his career as a pump wholesale distributor kept him busy for many years. Hunting, spending time with his buddies, hanging out at his cabin, watching football and NASCAR, classic cars, and four-wheeling were among the things he loved the most. He would have his dog by his side and a beer in his hand. He shared his talents and time with his protege Henry whom he helped to raise like his own, and later became a grandfather to four of the luckiest kids. Along with the smiles he gave to his kids that he drove the bus for while working for HEAD START and the YMCA. He is survived by Henry and Kristin Godfrey, Kylie, Tyler, Allie and Kolby. As well as his many beloved cousins and friends. He will be laid to rest on February 23, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Yellowstone National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 24 from 12-5 at the VFW Post 1634 in Billings, MT.
