Hannah Berscheid

Hannah May (Howard) Berscheid, wife of the late Martin (Red) Berscheid, passed away on June 2, 2024, in Billings, Montana. She was born on August 31st, 1931, in Hot Springs, South Dakota, one of six children of the late Morton and Clara (Lysgaard) Howard. Her parents and siblings moved to Montana in 1934, first settling in Laurel before finding their home in Billings, Montana.

She was a beautiful, sensitive, and caring woman. Her big brown eyes and quiet demeanor seemed to catch the attention of everyone and especially to Martin (Red) Berscheid. At the age of 19 in 1951, they married and began building their lives together. They went on to have two children, Michael and Redina.

Hannah put her children and husband first in her life. When Mike and Redina were in school, she volunteered for school activities and was thought of as a mom to many of her children's friends and neighborhood kids. She had a soft spot in her heart to anyone in need and was an excellent listener to friends and family. She always thought of others more than herself and did not always get the recognition that she deserved.

Hannah was a hard worker at home, in addition to having a great sense of humor. Her cooking skills were legendary - baking delicious pies and homemade bread. She also had the ability to decorate a home that was welcoming and cozy. Hannah enjoyed going fishing and camping, dancing with her husband, and tending to her yard and flowers in the summertime. She was a cancer survivor and overcame many health obstacles. Hannah will be remembered for her dedication to her loving husband and how proud she was of Mike and Redina and their accomplishments in life. She will be missed dearly by all of us, and always with us in our hearts. She will finally be together forever with her dear late husband Red in Heaven.

Hannah is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 73 years, Martin (Red) Berscheid, her parents Morton and Clara (Lysgaard) Howard, sisters Ethel Ward and Edith Young, and brothers Norman and Leslie Howard.

She is survived by her son Michael Berscheid (Kathy) of Joliet, and daughter Redina DeFilipi (Tom) of Somers, Connecticut. Grandchildren: Erik Berscheid (Sterrin) of Billings; Jolene McQuillan (Cole) of Joliet; and Dominic DeFilipi of Somers, Connecticut, along with four great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her sister Grace Satterthwait of Billings and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday, June 6th, at 11:30 AM at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery.
