David Walks

David Lawrence Walks - Larry to those of us who knew and loved him best - died on September 1st, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Billings on September 25th, 1933, and spent most of his life here, building a secure, loving environment for his wife, Darlene, his children, Susan and Russell, and a succession of wonderful dogs, each of whom had no difficulty at all seeing through the gruff facade he occasionally attempted to display.

Larry was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia (Lorash) and Rosalie (Shaw), and is survived by his sister, Peggy; his wife of 64 years, Darlene; his children, Russell (and wife, Tracy), and Sue (and husband, Stephan Bradley) - forever Susie to her dad. He leaves behind six grandchildren; Matthew Walks, Eric Rydquist (and wife, Kali), Grant Rydquist (and wife, Hope), Juliana, Jessica, & Jennifer Walks; two great-grandchildren, Olliver & Nora Rydquist; 8 nieces & nephews, and dear family friend, Todd Rydquist.

Larry Walks was the strongest man we've ever known. He fought cancer to a stand-still twice, whipped heart disease, and got up smiling every time life knocked him down. He said "I love you" often and without reservation. He could whistle like a songbird. He never missed one of his grandkids' activities or award ceremonies. He was happiest when surrounded by family, and he left this world knowing that all of us were safe, and happy, and that he'd completed the task he'd set out to accomplish on the day he was married.

Every single person in his life knew how he felt about them, and while it's tough to accept that he's no longer here to remind us, we'll be ok, because each of us knows his presence will be with us forever.

Although there is no formal memorial service scheduled, the family deeply and sincerely appreciates your kind thoughts.
