Judith Johnson

We lost our beloved mom, grandma, and sister to cancer on September 7, 2024. Judy was born to Victor and Dorothy Halverson in Billings, Montana, on July 2, 1940, the second oldest of five siblings. She attended her early elementary school years in Billings until the family moved to the Shepherd area in 1948. She graduated as valedictorian from Shepherd High School in 1958. In addition, Judy was musically talented and learned to play the accordion. She was married twice and was blessed with three children: Fred, Stacy and Heidi.

She was employed for several years by Cenex and worked her way up to becoming a senior production analyst. She also worked as the office manager for a dentist in Laurel. In 1980, she purchased a home and settled permanently in Laurel until she downsized to a 55+ apartment complex in Billings in 2015.

Despite dealing with chronic, debilitating back pain for much of her adult life, Judy possessed a witty sense of humor and maintained a self-sufficient and independent lifestyle. She always had a positive and cheerful outlook on life. However, the cancer diagnosis last spring was more than her body was able to conquer.

Judy is survived by her loving daughter, Heidi. Siblings, Patricia Gerringa (Ray), Joan Liddell, Jill Peterson (Rick) and Vic Halverson (Kim); several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and 2 of her children, Fred and Stacy. Judy was a remarkable person and she will be dearly missed by Heidi and all her family and friends.

No service is planned. A private, family celebration of life will take place at a future date.
