Obituary
Mary Therisa (Noni) Peterson passed away peacefully September 27, 2024 at the Wyndstone in Billings, MT surrounded by her family. She was born January 8, 1926, in Highland Park to Italian immigrants Allesandrina (Albinelli) and Marco Ugolini. She was raised and educated in Highland Park.
Mary married Norman Surgent in 1950 in Highland Park, they were blessed with 2 sons George and Jimmy, Norm died in 1953 after contracting Polio. In 1960 she married Robert Peterson, they had a daughter JoAnne, completing their family.
During her life she lived mostly in Highland Park, moving to Gillette, Wyoming later in life to be near her daughter JoAnne and her family. She gave of her time generously and especially enjoyed her time as a hospital volunteer.
One of her favorite places on the planet was their cabin on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, she also loved to travel, especially to Italy. She enjoyed gambling and loved her occasional martini. Her favorite thing in life was spending time with grandchildren and later in life her great grandchildren. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and loved making big Italian dinners. She has passed on her talent of making tortellacci to her family.
She will be remembered most for her wonderful sense of humor and her signature jokes, which will live on for generations.
Noni was preceded in death by her husbands and all her siblings. She is survived by her sons George (Marla) Surgent of St. Leonard, MD and Jimmy (Devon) Surgent of Nordland, WA; her daughter JoAnne (Dan) Coolidge of Red Lodge, MT; 6 grandchildren Eric (Andrea) Surgent, April (Zak Hinderyckx) Surgent, Ahren (Jamie) Surgent, Blaire (Katie) Surgent, Jake (Rhian Clark) Coolidge and Alex (Jessica Montcalm) Coolidge as well as 7 great grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, October 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Red Lodge, MT, followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at One Legged Magpie.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Shriners Hospital, St. John's Hospice in Billings, MT or Calvary Episcopal Church in Red Lodge, MT.
Services are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel of Billings.
