Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce that on February 2nd, 2026, Betty Jane Plunkett left us peacefully in her sleep to be with our Heavenly Father. Celebrating 96 years, Betty was born on October 14th, 1929, in Lovell, Wyoming. She grew up and attended school in Lovell and Deaver, Wyoming. Her family moved to Arizona for a short time before returning to Wyoming.

After graduating high school, Betty moved to Billings, where she met the love of her life, Leland Brian Plunkett, they married on August 14th, 1955, and started their life together raising a family.

Betty was a loving, strong-willed, independent woman with a great sense of humor who put her family before herself and loved her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids unconditionally. She was an active member of her church and loved attending and socializing with her many friends there. She often participated in choir, Christmas programs, and played the piano at many of the services.

Betty rarely spent idle time sitting. Instead, she was always planning her next activity, she spent time volunteering, was active in politics, and helping her friends and neighbors wherever she could.

She loved to travel and visited many destinations, including Europe, Alaska, and many places in the United States. She loved her time in Arizona. Betty tried her hand at tennis, golf, and skiing. She loved the outdoors and often went camping with family and friends. Many a memory is that of loading up the camper on a Friday afternoon from a long work week and heading for the many beautiful places with her family enjoying the weekend fishing, hiking and just relaxing with a good book. Betty also had many hobbies including playing the piano, sewing, arts and crafts, and was an avid reader. She was always happy to pick up books at the local secondhand stores. She had many special long time friends on Phillips Street, where she raised her family and cherished her home, especially her beautiful yard.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Leland Plunkett, her mother and father. George and Hermina Lohrenz, brother Charlie Lohrenz, and her sisters Laura Mae and Donna Mae Lohrenz.

She is survived by her children, Kim Molzhon (Norman) and Russell Plunkett. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Lee Molzhon(Chloe) and Mackenzie Martinson(Bannor), her great-grandchildren Lucy Jane, Gabby Maureen, and Gemma Pearl. Als,o her brothers Harold Lohrenz (Karlyn), Clarence Lohrenz (Carol), and Les Lohrenz (Dee).

A celebration of life is planned for June in Billings, MT.
