Adam Singer

Adam Henry Singer passed to the Other Side Camp on Tuesday, January 21. He was born in Crow Agency on January 28, 1936. The son of Paul Singer, who passed months before Adam was born, and Lillian Bullshows Hogan. He was raised in Pryor by his grandfather Bull Shows and grandmother Little Horse. He later moved to Crow Agency and was raised by his mother and stepfather, George Washington Hogan. He was a member of the Big Lodge Clan and a child of the Ashkamne (Piegan) clan. Adam's Crow name is Ahpaaxchia (White Cloud), given to him by his uncle, William Russell.

He graduated from Hardin High School in 1955 and played center for the Hardin Bulldogs. After high school, he also played for Crow Independent teams as well as for the Phoenix Chiefs in Phoenix, Arizona. Afterward, Adam joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. In 1960 Adam married Bernice Daychild. During their marriage, Adam, Bernice, and their children, Mona Lisa, Curtis, Faye Dean, and Carson moved to San Francisco where Adam attended school. Adam was also a trained barber and worked in the Billings area for many years. He also worked for the Crow tribal coal mining company, Westmoreland, and retired due to injuries received on the job. Adam loved to travel, often taking all or some of his family on long car trips throughout Montana and the rest of the country. Usually with a camera or binoculars slung around his neck. He was also an avid storyteller, regularly invited to tell his relatives stories about the old timers who lived in Pryor when he was a boy, or recounting history he learned about Crow life before the reservation era. Above all, Adam was a devout Christian, reading the word of God daily. Constantly praying for his family and friends. Adam never turned away anyone who needed his help, whether monetary, prayer, or advice; Adam was selfless.

Adam is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bernice, his daughter Mona Lisa of Billings, and son L. Carson Singer of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He raised two grandchildren as his own Adam “Boone” Sings In The Timber and Kane Singer, both of Billings. His son Curtis Singer and daughter Faye Dean Singer preceded him in death.

Adam is survived by grandchildren Jet and Lake Sings In The Timber, Kurtis and Konner Singer, Stephanie, Kyle Singer, Neeji Singer, Noah Singer, Paul Singer, Kasey Singer, Taylor Singer. Sisters Mardell Plainfeather and Iva Bullshows. Cousins Martha and Susan Singer. Nieces

Loreen Crooked Arm (Myron), Roberta Walks Over Ice, Lorena Plainfeather, Meredith Toineeta, Cerise Plainfeather, Mary Hill, Rebecca Falls Down, Billie Plain Feather, Sara Lee Plain Feather, Teatta (Benjamin) Bear Below, Theo Dean, Oramae, and nephews Louie Walks Over Ice, Barry Hogan, Irwin Dean Bull Shows, Kendall Old Horn (Berniece) and Laramie Plainfeather (Cabbrina). Great-nephew Cal Walk Over Ice (Mary). Siblings who preceded Adam in death were sisters Iris Bull Shows, Lorena Mae Walks Over Ice, Nellie Sings In The Mountains, Mary Wallace, and brother Samuel Plainfeather. Nieces who preceded him in death are Cassandra Walks Over Ice and Brenda Fighter. Nephews who preceded him in death are Russell Plain Feather, Jason Shane, Gregory Plain Feather, and Carson Walks Over Ice.

He is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved very much, often sharing stories and taking them hunting, fishing, and berry picking in East Pryor and Pryor Gap. Family meant everything to him. He also named many of his relatives, including Camryn (David) Old Chief's sons, David, Ryan, and Josiah.
