Patricia Dahl

Patricia Ann “Patti” Bumgarner Dahl, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. Born April 18, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri, Patti lived a full and vibrant life defined by love for her family, deep faith and unyielding spirit.

Patti grew up in Lake Lotawana, Missouri, with her parents, Earl and Norma Bumgarner, her brother Richard and her sister, Nancy. She graduated from Lee's Summit High School in 1959. After high school, Patti worked at Hallmark in Kansas City before embarking on an exciting career with TWA, where she formed lifelong memories and adventures with her dear friend, Linda.

In June of 1965, Patti and Robert Dahl were married in Las Vegas. They settled in Gallatin, Missouri, where they welcomed their three children. Later, the family relocated to Billings, Montana in 1972. After their divorce in 1978, Patti remained in Billings, where she raised her children and built a strong, faith-filled life.

Patti was an active member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, where she developed many cherished friendships. She was also involved in the Eagle Forum, the American Cancer Society and the Red Hat Society, which brought her much joy and camaraderie. She encouraged her children to be involved in sports, church activities and social events. Proud of her Missouri roots, she often reminded others, “Try me and I'll show you.”

Patti worked various jobs over the years in Billings, including positions at St. John's Lutheran Home, EBMS, Stockton Oil, and most notably, Costco, a job she truly loved. Her dedication and work ethic left a lasting impression on her colleagues and friends.

Patti had a soft spot for animals, especially her beloved cocker spaniels and cats. She was known for her strong will, generosity, and endless compassion for the underdog. Her children's friends remember her as a fun, lively presence who always welcomed them with open arms and a healthy dose of adventure.

Patti was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Norma Bumgarner, her sister, Nancy Allison, and her cherished pets, Jesse, Rawhide and Lucky.

She is survived by her children, Amy (Dana) Rowe of Billings, Montana, Audrea (Dana) Durham of Bozeman, Montana and Nils (Amy) Dahl of Billings, Montana. She leaves behind her treasured grandchildren, Paxton (Kayla) Rowe and their daughters, Adelyn, Emelia and Hayden; and Briley (Kaleb) Flowers and their daughter, Aletta, all of Billings. Patty is also survived by her brother, Richard (Sharon) Bumgarner of Oklahoma, along with numerous nieces of nephews whom she loved dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11:30 am at Dahl Funeral Home in Billings, Montana.
