Obituary
Donald “Don” Olsen, long time educator, coach, and storyteller for Eastern Montana schools, passed away March 15, 2025, at the Billings Clinic Hospital one day shy of his 77th birthday.
Born March 16, 1948, in Sidney Montana to Elmer and Lucille Olsen. Don grew up in Miles City graduating in 1966. While there, Don enjoyed playing basketball and singing in his high school choir. Furthering his education, he attended Eastern Montana College graduating with a teaching degree in 1972 and a Master of Education in 1988. His teaching and coaching took him to schools in Miles City, Baker, Billings Central, Huntley Project, and ended at Billings Senior as a guidance counselor.
While attending EMC, Don met his future wife, Kathy Beggin. Don and Kathy were married June 9, 1973, at St. Pius X Church. Joining them in 1984 was their son Chris and in 2015 granddaughter Kameron. The family enjoyed camping, golfing, coffee with the boys, and trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Disney World, the West coast and later cruising the California Coast.
Don leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Kathy, son Chris, granddaughter Kameron, brother-in-law Father Tom Beggin, mother-in-law Donna Beggin, and many cousins. A special thank you to Don's many old and new friends for always being there.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings Dale, Patricia, Joey, and Linda. Don's family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Billings Clinic Hospital for the care and comfort given to him during his final days.
Those wishing to honor Don's memory may gift the Billings Senior High School student food pantry with snacks, gift cards, or monetary donations. You may also bring a good item to Don's funeral or vigil service.
A vigil service for Don will be held Wednesday April 2, 2025, at 4:00 pm at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Thursday April 3, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
