Steven Dunning

Steven Dunning of Billings, MT, died peacefully in his sleep on April 9, 2025, at the age of 60.

As a child growing up, Steve had the experience of living in several different places. He began his life at Malstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, MT, where he was born on December 11, 1964, while his father, Lew, was stationed there. Steve began his schooling in San Mateo, CA, and completed his education in Wilmington, DE, graduating from Wilmington High School in 1983. He lived in CA and DE, and visited his parents while overseas in Taiwan. He spent time as a young man in Virginia and returned to the West he loved, living in Billings, MT, for the last 22 years, where his parents retired.

Steve had a generous heart and would spend any discretionary funds on thoughtful gifts for his parents or his grandmother, and other family members. He enjoyed family gatherings and occasionally let out a hearty laugh around the dinner table.

He was not outgoing but enjoyed his time reading and loved “gaming” and flying airplane simulators on his computer. To know Steve's heart, one would need to read some of the letters and journals that he wrote so well.

He is survived by his parents, Lew and Connie Dunning, his brother, Dan (Chris), his Aunt Bette Jaedicke, Uncle Phil Hartman (Sheri), and numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 537 Grand Ave, Billings, MT, at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 24, 2025. There will be a light luncheon following the service. Interment with family will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.
