Marian Ferguson
November 13, 1925 - April 26, 2025
Obituary
Marian P. Ferguson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Billings, Montana, on April 25, 2025, at the age of 99. A woman of timeless grace and deep kindness, Marian's remarkable life touched all who knew her.
Born on Friday, November 13, 1925, in Cumberland, Maryland, Marian was the third of eight children born to Charles and Margaret Zembower. From an early age, she had a passion for fashion and a sharp eye for style, which led her to a fulfilling career as a ready-to-wear buyer—her dream job and lifelong joy.
Her life took a beautiful turn when she met Edward “Scott” Ferguson on a double date—where his bold attempt to impress her by pulling a tablecloth (and all the dishes) off the table sparked the beginning of a great love story. Their courtship was as unique as their bond, culminating in a train station proposal where Edward quite literally swept her off her feet. Their marriage spanned 66 years, filled with unwavering love, adventure, and deep companionship.
Together, Marian and Edward raised two children, John and Kristin, who were the pride of her heart. Their life journey took them across the world, with Marian fondly recalling their years living in Japan and the Philippines as some of her most cherished experiences.
A proud member of her sorority, Marian believed deeply in friendship, laughter, and the joy of simple pleasures. Her wisdom was gentle but powerful: “Have friends, do the things that make you happy, and love people.” She found joy in bowling, treasured her awards, adored her pets, and lived by the philosophy, “Take each day as it comes and do the best you can.”
Marian is survived by her siblings Becky Eckerd and Verle (Alice) Zembower; her son John (Michelle) Ferguson; her daughter Kristin Byram; grandchildren Joshua Byram (Talia) and Sarah Byram; and great-grandchildren Sloane, Elon, Alayna, and Mason. She is reunited in eternal peace with her beloved Edward, her baby boy Ronnie, and her siblings Charles, George, Nettie, William, and Royce.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7th, at St. Thomas Church, 2055 Woody Dr. The Rite of Committal will follow at Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel.
Marian's life was a shining example of love, resilience, and grace. She was our angel on earth and now watches over us from heaven.
