William “Bill” Rectenwald, age 58, passed away in Billings, Montana. Born on June 14, 1966, in Zanesville, Ohio, Bill spent his early years in Ohio and Vermont before settling in Montana, where he lived in Ballantine and later Billings.


In 1987, Bill married Darla Marcher in Billings, Montana. He worked as a truck driver for HCL Trucking Co., a career that allowed him to explore his love of the open road. Bill was known for his vibrant personality, infectious laugh, and a warped sense of humor. He always had a joke at the ready and cherished time spent with friends and family.


Bill found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved fishing, swimming, hunting, camping, celebrating the Fourth of July, and working on small engine repairs. He also enjoyed hitching, leatherwork, and took pride in mowing the lawn. His hobbies reflected his hands-on nature and zest for life.


Bill was preceded in death by his mother Nancy Rectenwald-Nesbitt; stepfather John Nesbitt; father William Rectenwald; uncle Harold Armentrout Jr; baby brother David Rectenwald, and step brother Craig Nelson, and many beloved friends and family members.


He is survived by the love of his life, Delia Gill; his children Alexandria Jackson and William Rectenwald; his siblings Valerie Redman and her husband Darvin, and their children Dezarae and Joshua, Eileen Rectenwald-Foster, Sonya Rectenwald, Pamala Nelson, Amy Nelson, Heather Nelson, Johnny Ray Nelson, Ramonia and Senia Nelson, and William “Willy” Rectenwald, Chanette and her children Devon, Damein, Techea, Faith, and Calix as well as countless other friends and family.

Those who knew Bill will remember him as a loving man with a heart of gold. His bear hugs were legendary among his children, whom he adored with all his heart. Bill's fun-loving spirit and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.


May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.

My Dear loving brother you may not be here on earth with me anymore but you live on in my heart forever along with the memories of our childhood running and playing without a care in the world, going camping, fishing, the Hannah Barbara theme park, swimming, you always being there when just needed someone to talk to or listen to me , your hugs that gave me comfort and let me know it was going to be okay. My father was my best friend, I could tell him a secret and it would stay with him. We had a special code for saying we loved each other that I will forever cherish. I have so many memories that it's so hard to pick just one, but the goofy faces he made always made me laugh. Especially when he knew I was upset about something, I would pretend I didn't see him making faces to cheer me up just so I could hold onto whatever emotion I was feeling. But I would see him and burst out laughing, and would make him laugh too. He always made farm animal sounds too, and my favorite one was the pig. He did the best pig and cow sounds in the world, Everytime he made those sounds you would think there was really an animal nearby. Dad never lost his sense of humor even in the last days of his life, it was just who he was. The goofball, the jokester, the big teddy bear. I loved him more than I was able to tell him, and tried to show it. I know my father is with me still as I navigate life without him, I may not see him, or hear him but I know he is with me.
