Charles Goldy Jr

Chuck Goldy passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Chuck was born August 26, 1942 in Billings, Montana to Charles B. Goldy Sr. and Theresa Marie (Eisenman) Goldy. As the son of an Army officer, Chuck spent his early years living in Guam, Saipan, Germany, Switzerland and numerous locations across the United States. No doubt these experiences profoundly influenced his love of travel and willingness to try new things.

Chuck moved to Park City, MT and attended Laurel High School his senior year to establish residency, so he could attend Montana State College (MSU) in Bozeman to study architecture. He soon found that his money disappeared quickly and moved to Billings, where he worked for an engineering firm and continued to court Judy Kline (from Laurel) who was attending Eastern Montana College at the time. The two married and returned to MSU for Chuck to finish his architecture studies and begin a family. Chuck graduated with a BA in Architecture in 1966 before being called to serve his country. He deployed to Vietnam in 1967, leaving his wife with two toddlers and an infant. Chuck was a member of the Army Corps of Engineers where he served with honor and distinction.

Chuck returned to Billings, MT, where he ultimately opened his own architectural firm, cbg architects. Chuck spent his days in his favorite profession, working with his clients and trying his best to fulfill their design needs. He could be found at City Hall “interacting” with building officials in an attempt to comply with codes while still giving his clients what they wanted. Chuck was a true artist, and his creativity was not limited to his drawing, painting or photography.

Chuck dedicated his life, alongside Judy, to raising his family. In an attempt to share his love of fishing with his four oldest children, he orchestrated a day of worm fishing at Cooney Dam. This day entailed patiently unhooking his oldest son from his youngest daughter's cast and paying a “Hold Your Pole” fine to Fish and Wildlife. Successfully, each pole made it back home with the family, and his children were photographed smiling while holding their catch. Chuck was always up for anything, including the Dad's Dance at his granddaughter's recital. Chuck and his youngest son, both in dresses and wigs, could be seen dancing on stage to Dude Looks Like a Lady. Chuck instilled the values of hard work, integrity and compassion. No matter how many hours Chuck and Judy spent at the office, they made it to their children's numerous activities and fundraisers. Chuck loved Judy and his kids with all his heart and could be found every Christmas Eve at Sears selecting their gifts for Christmas morning.

In addition to work and family, Chuck cared deeply for his community. If you have ever driven down Colton Boulevard between Rehberg and 17th and didn't blow your tire or need an alignment afterwards, you can thank Chuck. Chuck and neighbor, Pete Peterson, along with their families spent countless hours knocking doors for signatures to petition the city to do something about the pothole-riddled Colton Boulevard of the 80s.

Chuck was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and treasured the time spent in his Renew group. In keeping with his faith, he was loved and respected for his character, loyalty, honesty and work ethic. He always stood up for the underdog even if it cost him. Chuck will be remembered for his sense of humor, his ability to listen without judgement and his unwavering love and devotion to his family and community. In business and in life, his word and hand shake meant everything.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles B. Goldy, Sr. and Theresa Marie (Eisenman) Goldy; sister, Connie Goldy Thormley; granddaughter, Kimber Alexis Goldy and grandson, Matthew David Elmer.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judy; his children, Laura (Ned) Elmer, Lisa (Ron Ramsing) Goldy, Michael Goldy, Lynnette (Bob) Jahr and Mark (Heidi) Goldy; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A Viewing will be held at 6 PM with a Vigil to follow at 7 PM on Thursday, March 20th at Dahl Funeral Chapel, Billings, MT. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 21st at 10 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Billings, MT. Graveside Service with military honors will take place at Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel, MT from 1:00-1:20 PM on March 21st.

Chuck's family appreciates the care he received at St. John's United Fischer Cottage and for the support and kindness from the hospice team.
