Edward Grinsell,

Ed Grinsell Sr., age 82, passed away on January 18, 2023, in Billings, MT, following a steadfast battle with cancer. He was born August 21, 1940 at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Edward Grinsell IV and Theresa Kennedy Grinsell. He left home at an early age for school and worked numerous jobs. He volunteered for the Air Force in 1962 and served four years, much of that time in Greece. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in Great Falls, MT where he met Loretha Mae Risingsun while teaching a sign language course. They married in 1966 and from that union had four sons: Ed Jr, William “Bill”, John, and Floyd “Joe”. They were married for 51 years. During their early married years, they lived in California and West Virginia, finally returning and settling in Montana on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. He worked as a master glazier and other jobs. 

Loretha passed in 2018. Following her passing, he remained busy in Busby, and Billings, MT. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Billings. He treasured his time with family. He considered himself a wealthy man because of his large loving family. He is survived by his four sons, his sisters (Patricia Akers and Francis Milam), special sister-in-law Dorothy Grinsell, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and many friends.

Months prior to his passing, Ed composed the following:

“At the time of my death; that is my graduation from this physical life . . . my obit should read: A child of God has graduated from this earth and gone on in the fullness of the spirit of Jesus Christ. I am grateful and will always be grateful for being blessed with my family and ask for His continued blessings upon you until you all join me in the glory of the fullness of Jesus Christ. I thank God always for my mom and dad and my brothers and sisters. What a blessed life God allowed me! To my friends, HaHo. No wake and no feast. We will celebrate with Jesus Christ in the resurrection.”
