Garfield Little Light

Garfield G. Little Light, Awuushbilee iishichee, passed away peacefully among family on Friday, February 11, 2022. He was born in Crow Agency and raised in the Lodge Grass Creek Area. He was a member of the Reeds Society, Peigan Clan, and child of the Big Lodge Clan. Garfield attended school at Lodge Grass, St. Labre, and graduated from Lodge Grass High School where he played basketball and football. He enjoyed traveling with his teammates and had great stories of bus rides and playing all over the State. He continued his education at Billings Business College, Eastern Montana College, and attained his degree from Central Arizona College. Garfield worked his entire career at Indian Health Service, starting in the mailroom, and rose to become the Assistant Area Director. He completed his Executive Leadership Certification through the Department of Health and Human Services after 44 years of serving the country's Native people. He made many lasting relationships with those he met in the course of his work, which includes heads of state, Tribal Leaders, and various levels of executive leadership. Garfield's interests always included his family, whatever sport or activity his loved ones were involved in drew his support. He could be found at football, basketball, softball, golf, band, cross country, and even spelling events. His great joy was watching his family parade, dance, and participate in pow wows, arrow tournaments, and anything related to Crow culture. Garfield's advice and guidance were always sought after when anyone faced a decision large or small and he remained a fierce advocate for his sisters and brothers in anything they chose to pursue. The wisdom that he deposited guided them throughout their years and greatly contributed to their success. Garfield took his role as head of the family very seriously and tried to impassion his loved ones to follow the word of God and consider their faith as their guiding force when faced with challenges. To Garfield, the love of his cherished mother, Leona, and how she raised him was the light that guided his life. Garfield is survived by his three children that were his heart's joy: Angelique (Robert Rides At The Door) Little Light, Tiffany (Rick) Nedens, and Eric Little Light. Garfield's grandchildren Sierra, Marissa, Adam, Davontre, Olivia, and Anthony, his great-granddaughter KayLani and goddaughter, Marley Johnson brought him great pride and happiness. Garfield also adopted Jaymeson Red Star and Krista Bailey as his children. Garfield was united in marriage to Audrey Jones and later divorced, but continued a close relationship with her and the Jones family. Survivors also include sisters: Celeste ‘Kaye' Tobacco, Minerva (Mike) Tucker, Vianna (Dennis) Stewart, Victoria (Myron) Falls Down, Kathleen (Clinton) White Clay, Teresa (Daniel) Brien, Mabel Pretty On Top. Brothers: John Dust, Joey Pretty On Top, and Gordon Morning. Extended brothers: Thomas (Janice) Morning, and Robert ‘Jiggs' Morning. Adopted sisters: Red Star Price, Myra Gros Ventre, Lottie “Honey Bun” Medicine Horse, Henrietta Takes Horse, Maria Pease, Aldean Dust, Flavina Bromley, Rebecca Stoval, Jennifer Jefferson, and Shirleen Glenn. Big brothers: Darrell Bright Wings, Isaac Dust, Kevin Red Star, Wallace Red Star Jr., Arnold Jefferson, and Norris Davies. Little brothers: Clive Dust Jr., Joseph Dust Jr., Larry Bright Wings, Aaron Red Star, Marlon Red Star, Dean Bird, Tilton Old Bull, and Dana Bird. Mothers that adopted Garfield as their son whose families became his brothers and sisters: Rita Don't Mix, Mary Francis Flat Lip, Nadine Old Bull, and Billie Jean Old Bull. Garfield was preceded in death by his parents: Leona (Little Light) Morning, Victor Morning (who raised him), Melvin Pretty On Top, and stepmother Regina Pretty On Top along with his adopted son Travis Buffalo. He will also join in heaven his brothers: Daniel, Darrell Paul and Curtis Morning, sister Nora Ann Bird, adopted sister Veronica ‘Vicki' Dust, big brothers: Victor Dust, Henry Bright Wings Jr., Bernard Dust, Kenneth Sun Goes Slow, Dallas Dust, John Pretty On Top, Warren Pretty On Top, Emmit Old Bull, Floyd Old Bull, and Donald Old Bull, aunties/grandmothers: Martha Dust, Edna Dust, Amy Red Star, Mary Bright Wings, Juanita Morning, Nelli Dust and Henrietta Pretty On Top, uncles/grandfathers: Trask Little Light, Henry Bright Wings Sr., William Gros Ventre, Louis Good Luck Sr. and Clive Dust Sr. If we've forgotten anyone, please accept our apologies, we are grieving a great loss.
