Louis Goodluck

Our loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Louis “Louie” Goodluck Jr. went home to be with the Lord on October 7, 2020. Louie was born in Crow Agency, Montana on November 15, 1952 to Louis “Tex” Goodluck, Sr. and Alice (Iron) Goodluck. His indian name is deaxkash awachish, “Sitting Eagle,” given to him by his grand- father, Matthew Goodluck. He was a member of the Ties in the Bundle Clan and a child of the Piegan Clan. He married Alda Cummins Goodluck on May 1, 1982 at Lodge Grass, Montana. Louie and Alda were blessed with three daughters, Audrie, Vonna and Kaitlyn. They also raised Levon and Lanaya Driftwood. They lived in No Water and settled in Wyola, Montana at Louie's childhood home where they raised their family. Louie attended Wyola elementary school and attended high school at Lodge Grass, Montana and graduated in 1972. Louie was an outstanding basketball player which began in his elementary years in Wyola. His basketball abilities gained him a position on the varsity basketball team as a freshman at Lodge Grass High School. While playing for the “Indians,” the team made it to the state two of the four years he played in high school. Louie was a very exceptional basketball player scoring 30 to 40 points in one game. During his high school basketball career they made it to state in 1970 and placed 3rd in 1972. He was named all state, first tourney team and earned other awards during his high school basketball career. Louie also played at the college level at Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma and received an Associate's Degree in 1975. He was one of two native players for the Bacone Team, because of his talented basketball skills native people in the Muskogee community attended the basketball games to watch and support him. After graduating from Bacone College, Louie played for various independent teams across the United States. He won numerous trophies, jackets and awards and was selected MVP numerous times. Louie also attended Arizona State University and one of the highlights of his basketball career included trying out for the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix, Arizona. In addition, he attended Rocky Mountain College and while attending Rocky Mountain College he was offered a job to work as the Crow Tribe TERO Director, he held this job for a number of years. He also held jobs at the Thunder Child Treatment Center in Sheridan, Wyoming, Sarpy Mines, United Postal Service, Crow Tribe AML, and Crow Tribe Dialysis Patient Transport. While employed Louie always managed to find time to rope at a rodeo or roping. Louie retired in 2018 and he was able to spend time doing what he enjoyed; riding horses, roping, working outdoors and building sweat and spending time with his sweat buddies in Wyola and Lodge Grass. Louie found every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling and competing at Rodeos and Wrangler Team Roping. He was a member of the Great Plains Indian Rodeo Association, WTRC, USTRC and competed in the NSI roping. Louie was proud to win several trophy saddles and numerous buckles for his team roping. He also earned a spot to compete in the Indian National Finals 2010 and 2012. Although Louie enjoyed his family and horses and roping his love for his lord and savior was always number one for him. He read his bible and devoted his mornings to reading, prayer and time with Jesus. Louie was predeceased by his parents, grandparents Edward and Angela (Brass) Iron, Matthew Good Luck, Ruth Brightwings and Maggie Brass, aunts Amy Red Star, Martha Dust, Leona Morning, Iris Three Irons, Ruby Goes Ahead, Stella Whiteman; uncles, Wallace, Ted, and Frank Iron; sisters Aneda Hill, Andrea Goodluck; Virginia Covers Up and Alpha Old Coyote; brothers, Gary, Clinton and Johnny Goodluck. Daughter, Levon Driftwood; niece Lona Lee Fritzler. He is survived by his wife Alda; daughters Audrie (Josh) Buffalo, Vonna (Champ) Falls Down, Lanaya Driftwood, Kaitlyn (Greg) Sloan; son Rad (Vash) Desjarlis; nephews Kolan Goodluck, Darren Fritzler, Elvin (Cassie) Fritzler, Seth Spotted Horse, Kolan, Gary Joe Goodluck ; nieces Robyn (Vance) Crooked Arm, Raven and Rosslyn “Fozzy” Good Luck; grandchildren Landon, Blake, Caleb, Colton, Shaylei, Keslyn, Kaelor, Miles, Judah, Heston, and Valeena, Riley, Radler, Maylie, Jalen, Jerah, Blaze, Zane, Ethan, Cailie, Caiden, Caison, Meigha (Merlyn) Tsosie and David (Cammie) Old Chief Sr., Timmy, Kade, and Chad Falls Down; great-grandchildren Amaris, Zainen, and Kalan; sisters Joyce Good Luck, Lavonne Spotted Horse, Angela (Hartford) Bear Claw, Verly (Gabe) Morgan, Missy (Randy) Falls Down, Rhea Goes Ahead, Marilyn (Jay) Simpson, Avis and Lana Three Irons, Daisy (Ed) Stamper, Darla (Sam) Horn, Valerie (Jeff) Packs the Hat, Rachel (Robert) Old Horn; brothers Dan (Letha) Gun Shows, Terrence Covers Up, Thomas (Janice) Morning, Gary Dean (Ann) Little Light, Dukey (Ginger) Goes Ahead, Dana (Karen) Goes Ahead, Keithland Three Irons; brothers-in-law Barney and Leroy Cummins, George (Julie) Cummins, Father Randolf Graczyk, Corey (Roberta), Boyd (Charlotte), Scott (Debbie) Russell; adopted family Kuwanhoyioma Family of Phoenix, Arizona; numerous traditional nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is also survived by his extended family including the Good Luck, Iron, Brass, Otter Stays in the Water, Black Hawk, Yellowmule, Leider, Walks Over Ice, Spotted, Hunts the Arrow, Red Wolf, Bad Horse, Covers Up, Little Owl, Red Star, and Bright Wings families.
