Obituary

Kyle Andrés Laborda entered the kingdom of Heaven on July 25, 2020, at age 34. He was born October 2, 1985, in Miles City, Montana. Raised in Billings, Montana, he attended Alkali Creek Elementary School, Castle Rock Middle School, and Skyview High School. During his youth, he participated in Cub Scouts, Heights National Little League, and YMCA Youth Soccer. Kyle had a true gift for music! He played both the trumpet and piano and showed proficiency as early as elementary school. His piano teacher commented that Kyle was one of the hardest working students she had ever taught. Kyle continued to play both instruments in the Skyview Jazz Band. It was always a pleasure hearing him practice around the house. As a young boy, Kyle enjoyed anything involving building and construction. He loved Legos, K'NEXs, and drawing equipment on engineering paper. He would always run to the window to watch a construction or garbage truck drive by. Kyle was such a hard worker! He worked at Albertsons in the Heights during his high school years as a courtesy clerk and later in the produce department. He would even pitch in during holiday breaks from Montana State University. Kyle made long-lasting relationships with many of his Albertsons coworkers. After graduating from Skyview High School in 2004, Kyle was accepted into MSU. He loved being a Bobcat and was truly in his element in Bozeman! He took pride in being an AdvoCat and worked in the IT department. He was a huge Bobcat football fan and organized many computer LAN parties. One of his great college accomplishments was being a member of the Heavy Civil Team that won first place at the Associated Schools of Construction Region 6 competition. Combining his passion for both science and construction, he graduated from Montana State University-Bozeman with a BS in Construction Engineering Technology in 2010. After graduating from MSU, Kyle moved to Great Falls, Montana, where he worked on the Rainbow Dam Project as a Project Engineer for the Walsh Group. From there he moved to California, first to San Diego and later Rancho Cucamonga. Kyle later accepted a position at Flatiron Corporation. He first worked as a Project Engineer in Orange County, California, and later as an Assistant Project Manager in Lake Elsinore, California. At the time of his death, Kyle resided in Huntington Beach, California. He loved the ocean and walking along the Huntington and Newport Beach piers. Dana Point held a special place in his heart. During his time in California, he became a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Newport Beach, California, and participated in the Knights of Columbus. Kyle will be forever remembered by his daughter Charleston, his fiancée Melissa and her son, Ian; his parents, Pascual and Karen Laborda; his brother Kevin and sister Nicole (Luke Harvey). Kyle will also be forever remembered by his grandmothers, Helen Lanch and Nelsi Laborda; aunts, great aunts, uncles, great uncles, nephews, numerous cousins, extended family, colleagues, and dear friends. Due to the family's concerns about COVID-19, a private funeral mass celebrating Kyle's life will be held at St. Bernard's Parish at 11:00 AM on August 17, 2020, for immediate family only; however, the service will be live streamed for friends and family online at www.facebook.com/dahlfuneralchapel. In memory of Kyle, memorial donations can be made on GoFundMe (Kyle Laborda Memorial Fund) to help with his daughter, Charleston Grey Laborda (6). Cremation has taken place and arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel. Memories may be shared at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com.

Kyle had a laugh that just you feel good. He emanated joy. I know he took pride in how he could make anyone around him just feel happy. My memory is horrible, yet I still have many fond memories with Kyle. Halo in High School and College. Birthday parties. Old Chicago in Bozeman. "Jill checks" (just show us your hands Kyle, ok???). AdvoCats. Bobcat Basketball and Football games. Bowling in the Sub. Beer. The last time I saw him in person was at a Bobcat Football game. A group of us got together. Watched the game, had dinner and drinks at Montana Ale Works. We had a lot of fun that weekend. But what stuck out the most that weekend is it was the first time I had ever had a serious conversation with Kyle. We were standing out in the tailgate area, and we were talking about the issues he was having with his wife. The accusations she made about him. Him worrying about not being able to see his daughter. But even through that, he still had hope. This was the most serious and broken I had ever seen Kyle in my life, but he wasn't going to let such events keep him down. He was optimistic that things would get better, and was he was going to keep fighting for custody of his daughter. That is who Kyle was. I never imagined his fight for protecting his daughter would cost him his life. But through all of the pain I am feeling, I know that he is smiling down on his parents, siblings, and daughter who are now one big family. He would have preferred to be here too, but I know he is relieved that his daughter is finally safe. Kyle, I love you and miss you man. When this whole covid mess blows over, we will be getting together to celebrate you. We want to go see a football game. We want to go to Old Chicago. And maybe, just maybe, we will all keep our hands under the table just as we know you would have done.
