I am so sorry about the loss of your dear father. Joan and Vernon were the dearest and most interesting people and felt so fortunate to know and help them. their many stories of their life together. when I was there to clean, many times he was baking his famous chocolate cookies to take to some one he had just met. I especially loved the story he told of the IRS auditing several times because they couldn't believe a doctor could make so little. my prayers to all, janice handsaker

Vern Standish welcomed me into his home and medical practice in the summer of 1971, when I was entering the 4th year of medical school. His warm and wonderful family and the good people of Big Timber made me feel completely at ease despite my being an Easterner from a highly academic New England medical school. His medical practice -- learned, caring, ingenious at times -- left me with a lifetime respect for family practice and for the goodness and generosity of this gifted healer. Philip Cohen, MD.
