Janadele Gorea

Janadele Babe Baker/Gorea, Ammiíaalaauwia (Milky Way Woman) went to the other side of the camp on April 10, 2020 in Billings, MT. A member of the Crow and Three Affiliated Tribes, she was born on September 3, 1974 in Williston, ND. She was a daughter of Vaughn Dix Baker and Sharon Mae Smells. Jan grew up in Pryor, MT where she was raised by her adopted parents Duke and Myrna Spotted Bear. She enjoyed playing sports throughout her grade school and high school years. She attended school at St. Charles Mission, Plenty Coups High School, Little Big Horn College, and MSU-Billings where she was studying to become a CNA. Jan was a member of the greasy mouth clan. Growing up she actively participated in powwows and cultural gatherings as she was a member of the Crow Womens War Bonnet Society. She was able to express her compassion for her tribe and culture through a piece of poetry that was published in Rising Voices, Writings of Young Native Americans. “As I look at my people, it's as if I can feel their love and caring desires for one another. My people. . . . ….are one.” Janadele was a member of the Catholic Church as well as the All Nations Christian Fellowship Church, where she enjoyed serving as an usher. She had a strong faith and loved that she would be with the lord for eternity. Jan had a great love for her children, family, and friends. She loved her cat and three dogs Mickey, Beary, and Cody. She enjoyed watching forensic files and other mystery shows. She had a kind heart and a smile that could light up a dark room. The following preceded her in death: Grandparents- Owen and Emma Smells; Aunts- Donna Hein, Julia Round Face, Darlene Rogers and Theresa Haun. Uncle- Sylvester Smells, Brother- Print Spotted Bear. She is survived by her Mother- Sharon Mae Smells, Father- Vaughn Baker, Brothers- Little Crow Owen Baker, Colan Snow, Bruce Spotted Bear Jr., Taten Spotted Bear, Patrick (Christine) Big Lake, Harvey (Shelly) Big Lake. Sisters- Annabelle Baker, Sophia Baker, Constance Thompson, Kimberly (Tafuna) Tusi, Georgia (Calvin) Buckingham, Dawn Big Lake, Tonia Nagel, Monica Nagel-Henry, Velvet “Dee Dee” (Jesse) Hein, and Renee Hawley. Children- Sonya (Julian) GoesAhead, Donnatella Gorea Aaby, and Rose Buckingham. Nephews- Elijah Snow, Print Feather Earring. Aunts- Rosemary Round Face, Jeanette Richardson, Patrice Not Afraid. Uncles- William Baker, Bruce Spotted Bear Sr., Jerry (Peggy) Spotted Bear, Max (Dorothy) Spotted Bear. Special friends Betty and Ruthie Martinez, Andrew Jefferson, Pricilla and Robert Martinez. As well as extended family, which include Baker, Coffey, Smells, Round Face, Richardson, Windy Boy, Nagel. We have a large family; we apologize if we have forgotten anyone. Arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel. Friends and family are welcome to meet at the Dahl Funeral Chapel parking lot, noon Friday, April 17 to follow in a procession to Pryor cemetery for the interment.
