James Knapp,

James (Jim) Albert Knapp, Jr. was born on September 9th, 1947, in Webster, South Dakota. He was granted his angel wings on Saturday, November 2, 2019. (after a sudden heart attack). Jim will be forever missed by his wife of 48 years, Mary (Mowry) Knapp, son Brent Knapp, fiancé Becca and children Kaleb and Mckenna Knapp. Daughter Kristie (Knapp) Brisbin, husband Bruce and children Bryce and Kaylee Brisbine. Papa Jim led an exemplary life of service and generosity to others. He was a proud American who selflessly served his country in the Vietnam war as an artillery surveyor. Papa was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After his service Papa Jim hitched hiked back to Webster, South Dakota where he returned to his family farm. Papa resumed his education at Northern State University where he met his bride, Mary Mowry. Papa earned his BS in history and master's degree in Industrial Arts. Papa got his first teaching job in Lambert, Montana and after five years he transitioned to Huntley Project High School in Worden, Montana where he continued to coach and mentor students for 34 years. Papa Jim spent countless hours coaching wrestling as well as starting up and running the girls' softball program from 2000-2009. In 2006 Papa retired from teaching and spent his hours traveling and spear headed the building/maintaining of the Huntley Project Museum. He was also an active member of VFW Post 7407. Papa loved golfing at Pryor Creek with the Seniors league, fishing in Mexico with his buddies, serving his parish, and most importantly spending time with his grandkids. He was amazingly dedicated to his family and friends and would selflessly help anyone who needed it. He was an outdoor enthusiast. Jim could fix anything that was broken, build anything big or small, demolish any crossword he came across, and make anyone feel special in his presence. Papa was kind, caring and had a sense of calm that was unlike any other person. He was loved by everyone whose path he crossed. We are truly blessed to have had him in our lives. Jim is survived by his wife Mary, son Brent (Becca), daughter Kristie (Bruce), grandchildren Kaleb, Mckenna, Bryce, and Kaylee; his brothers Kermit and Greg and his sister Cheryl. He was preceded in death by his father James, mother Doris, and brothers Allen and Gary. There will be a vigil service on Thursday, November 7th at 6:30 pm at Saints Cyril and Methodius Church in Ballantine, Montana. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St Bernard Catholic Church, Friday November 8th, at 11:00 am. A memorial account has been setup at Stockman Bank in Worden, Montana. The donations will benefit the Huntley Project Museum, and Worden Fire and Ambulance services.
