Berylene DeCrane

Berylene Sarah DeCrane, 65, passed away on September 7, 2019. Berylene was born to Charles and Gladys Birdhat DeCrane on January 10, 1954. She was a member of the Ties the Bundle Clan and Child of the Greasy Mouth Clan, a direct descendant of Mountain Crow Chief Bellrock, BirdHat, and Crane. Berylene started her education at St. Charles Catholic Academy in Pryor. She went on to attend Edgar High School where she graduated in 1972. Berylene then attended May Tech of Billings, Missoula Tech, and Eastern Montana College. Berylene worked for RMC, Head Start, BIA, Crow Tribe, and Target Berylene participated in her Crow traditions, Native American Church, Sundance, Hand games, and Sweat Lodge. She was a talented seamstress and beader who created Native American regalia. Berylene was the family nanny, she cared for the children and went above and beyond. She loved and cared for them like they were her own. Berylene is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Gladys Birdhat DeCrane; great grandparents Sampson & Cecelia Other BlackBird Bird Hat; siblings Agnetas and Joyce DeCrane; grandchildren Micheal DeCrane and Alexander Whiteman; and aunt/mother Theresa Birdhat Haun. She is survived by her children Kathy Haun Fighter, Luke (Marci) DeCrane Sr., Jocelyn Not Afraid, and Chester (Miranda) Not Afraid Sr.; grandchildren Kasey Nate (Camille) Fighter, Luke Jr., Courage, Darrian, and Lydell DeCrane, Honor, Tylon, and Lane Jr. PlainFeather, Cheska, Chester Jr., Mathyus, and Mishayla Not Afraid; great grandchildren Kyrin and Eliane Joyce DeCrane; siblings Mary, Rueben (Christine), Ellsworth (Pauline), Althea, Rachael, Lawrence (Martha), and Angie DeCrane. Sunshine (Carl) GoesAhead; nieces: Valerie (Cliffton) Fallsdown, Melony, Kristen, and Lawren DeCrane, Jamie Blaine, Heidi and Darylynn BrightWings; nephews: Sampson (Veronica) DeCrane, Remueal (Ashley) GoodLuck, Liddon, Blake, Ethaniel (Kenzie) DeCrane, Josh (Audrey) Buffalo, Dalson and JD (Sonni) Blane, Embrey BrightWings; aunts Rosalie Turnsback, Irma Jane BirdHat, and Agnes (Larry) Pretty Weasel, Regina GoesAhead; and uncle Chester Birdhat. Please accept our apologies if we have missed anyone during our time of grief. On Monday, September 9th the Rosary will be starting at 6pm at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Celebration of Life will be at 1pm Tuesday September 10th at St. Charles Mission in Pryor MT. Interment will be at the Birdhat Cemetery.
