Obituary
Joseph Raymond FitzPatrick Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on May 7, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, MT from a short illness. He was born on February 11, 1957 in Jenkinstown, PA. At the age of 5 he was adopted by his parents Stephen Raymond FitzPatrick Jr. and Sallie Bolger FitzPatrick. He obtained his GED in 1978 and then joined the Navy. He remained in the Navy for 6 years when he met and married Lorna Palin FitzPatrick and they had 5 children. He worked repairing ships until an accidental fall caused a back injury that ended his career. He and his family moved from the San Diego area to Montana in the early 90's. Joe was a believer in Christ and he loved his Lord. He instilled this love into his children and he was very proud of them. He was a member of the local Church and never failed to sing the praises of his Lord to all who would listen. Joe lived all over Montana: Hamilton, Hardin, Billings, Helena and Kalispell. He enjoyed reading the bible, growing food, listening to classic rock, especially his favorite The Who, cooking, singing and of course his family. He was proud of his military service and continued to swab the deck, roll his clothes up and make sure everything was squared away. He was a much loved man. Joe is survived by his mother Sallie Bolger FitzPatrick; his sisters Teresa FitzPatrick and Debbie Reichert FitzPatrick; brother Tom FitzPatrick; children John David (Molly) FitzPatrick, Sarah Ann (Steven) Dalke, Joseph Raymond Jr.(Stephanie) FitzPatrick, Deborah Theresa (Jake) Zink, Stephen Raymond III (Alicine) FitzPatrick; step children Sylver Means, Robert Hall and Alec (Sara) Wood; his grandchildren Naomi, Logan, Skylar, Kailynne, Caimon, Joseph, Jayden, Skyla, Adria, Elina, Isaiah, Kiamree, Arsean, Amariah, Malechi and Malcom; his former wife Lorna Palin FitzPatrick and special friend Marnie (Andrew) Woodson; as well as his nieces and nephews. His Father Stephen Raymond FitzPatrick Jr. preceded him in death. Memorial Services will be held at the Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel MT on June 14, 2019 at 2pm. A reception to follow at VFW/FOE 313 Main Street in Laurel, MT. Joseph will be laid to rest with full military honors.

We met Joe when he lived in Hardin and worked for the newspaper. He was so funny and so caring. His writing was interesting and well done, which made us want to get to know him better. He always had time to talk and visit about anything and everything. We feel so lucky to have known him however briefly. Our love and kind thoughts go out to his family at this time. The sun doesn’t shine quite as brightly.

Things I know about Joe: He loved the Lord. He loved music especially hymns and the Who. He liked growing his own veggies even if he had to set up his own mini garden in his apartment. He was a true believer in a secret society that was manipulating the world. He would give you the shirt off his back or put a warm blanket over you if you fell asleep on his front porch. He loved his mom and dad so very much. He loved the Navy. He was very very smart. His kids were his world and he taught them to be "good people". He always wished he could do more. He wrote for three years for the Original briefs daily newspaper as well as printed folded and delivered them He fought many powerful demons daily until he grew so tired he went to rest in the arms of the Lord he loved so much.

i'm jaiden his grandson he loved me very much and right be for he died he said i can sit on his lap forever
