Rhonda Claire Wessell-Martinez, 62, of Billings, passed away at her home December 27, 2018. She was born October 2, 1956 in Butte, Montana. Rhonda was the daughter of Lawrence and Esther Wessell. The family lived in Butte, Great Falls and later settled in Billings. Rhonda graduated from Billings West High School in 1975. She was married to Albert Martinez, and out of that union, two children were born, Cynthia Claire and Joseph Albert. Rhonda was employed at Toys' R Us for 21 years, and she received many awards and made many friends. She also was involved with the Big Sky Blues Festival, Relay for Life and Alive After Five. Rhonda attended Elevation Church. She enjoyed a good pasty, shopping and the warmth of conversation from her many friends and family members. Rhonda loved her parakeets. She had an infectious smile, giving heart, and would offer kind words of encouragement to those that needed a lift. Rhonda loved talking about her Butte family, and one of her fondest memories was attending the family reunion in 2011. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Rhonda is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Claire Martinez-Espinosa (Steve); son, Joseph Albert Martinez; grandsons, Dante Lopez, Donovan Nick and granddaughter, Whitne Burns; brothers, Rick Wessell (Carrie) and John Wessell (Anna). She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Martinez; sister Marcia and brother-in-law Dale Owen; parents, Lawrence Joseph Wessell and Esther Montana Vigus; niece, Sophia Wessell; grandparents, William John and Mabel Jane Vigus. She has extensive family in Billings, Butte, Utah, California, Oregon and Washington. The family suggests remembrances be made to any animal care shelter program

My mom was Marge Hawke Flynn. She had Esther in school in Butte. After Esther passed away, Rhonda kept in touch with my mom. Over the years she visited Mom many times. She even tracked her down when she moved to Valley and visited her several times there. Mom passed away last February, and Rhonda visited her days before her death. Mom was always so grateful and happy Rhonda kept in touch. Whenever I’d meet her around town she always asked about mom and the family. I’m so sorry for your loss. She was such a caring person. I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to all of Rhonda’s family. Death is the hardest thing we have to deal with in life. I know my words can’t change anything and can do little to ease the pain you are feeling, so I pray that the God of comfort calm your hearts and help you heal. My sincere condolences to Rhonda's family. I assisted her in getting her job at Toy's R Us many years ago. Through that process we developed a relationship that remained friendly over the years. I often saw her around town and she never failed to say a warm hello and brighten my day. In recent years I saw her at some of the events at Senior High since my daughter was a student there and I believe one of her grandchildren was also a student. After she was laid off from Toy's R US. she brought me a box of candy wrapped in Toys R Us paper and put it on my desk at Job Service. I had an out of the office appointment at the time. She told a co-worker of mine she will know who it is from. She had included a card thanking me for assisting her over the years but, she was right. I knew who it was from.
