Obituary

Early on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, the loving son and brother, Andrew Barton Schaaf died from suicide, at the age of 36. Andrew was born April 5, 1982, to Barton and Tari (nee Hammond) Schaaf. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and while he pursued many passions and subjects, he ultimately graduated with a degree in Geology and was a practicing geologist at the time of his death. Andrew loved rock-climbing, cracking hilarious and occasionally inappropriate jokes, fixing Mother Earth, and playing his guitar. He was an engaging, witty, stubborn and singular human being. Andrew is survived by his parents, Barton and Tari Schaaf, his younger sister, Kendra Schaaf, and his partner of many years, Elizabeth Leweling. The family requests that in lieu of flowers (to which Andy had a lifelong allergy), donations be made to the Tumbleweed Runaway Program for at-risk youths. An informal wake will be held for Andrew on Dec. 6, from 4-7 p.m. at Dahl Funeral Home.

I was sorry to read about the loss of your dear loved one. The bible gives us hope of seeing them again in the promised resurrection to come according to scriptures such as [John 5:28-29] and [Acts 24:15]. We find further hope in scriptures like [Isaiah 25:8] and [Revelations 21;3-5] which says in part that Jehovah God will wipe out every tear from our eyes and death will be no more, because God will swallow up death forever. I hope these scriptures will be of some comfort. My Sincere Condolences.
