Ethel Hat

Ethel Buffalo Bird Hat (68) of Pryor, MT passed away November, 25, 2017. Ethel “Praying with Feather” was born on April 17, 1949, the daughter of Edward Buffalo and Margaret Rides Horse Big Head. She grew up and received her education at St. Xavier and Flandreau in SD. She was a member of the Native American Church, the Catholic Church, her clan was Ties the Bundle, and she was a child of the Big Lodge. Chester and Ethel Bird Hat were united in 1972, they exchanged vows November 19, 2011 they spent more than 45 years together. Her hobbies were baking and sewing. Ethel made beautiful dance outfits for her grandchildren. She liked collecting decorations for the holidays. Every Easter she enjoyed her travels to Arizona. Ethel was an avid supporter of her grandchildren attending their rodeos and sporting events. She also took joy in picking berries for her family, playing bingo, keno and scratch cards. Ethel was the head cook for Head Start and the Senior Citizen. Her parents, daughter Aretha Bird Hat, Sister; Mercilene Buffalo, brothers; Virgil and Edward Buffalo, Jr. preceded Ethel in death. Survivors include her husband, sons William “Joe” (Geri) Gutierrez Jr. and Melvin Bird Hat, daughters Lana (Brian) Gutierrez Old Crow and Pam (Jared) Bird Hat Amyotte, sisters; Theda (name), Aleta Faye Medicine Horse, brother; Curtis John (Lottie) Buffalo and Alex (Mary Helen) Medicine Horse, Aritha (Cody) Hogan, Maritha (Robert) Nomee, Jodell (Marian) Blackwolf, Anessa Gutierrez, Carl Monroy, Sampson DeCrane; 19 grandkids, and 15 great grandkids. Her extended familes include the Three Irons, Raining Bird, Rides Horse, Smart Enemy, Big Lake, Fighter, House, Whiteman, Nomee, Morning, Rossette, Chief Goes Out, Bear Crane, Goes Ahead, Stewart Stupm Wood tick, Plain Feather, Dust, Iron Maker, Top Sky, Chief Stick, Hawk and Howe.
