Joseph Fredell Broken Rope Jr. went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2015. He was born to the late Joseph Broken Rope Sr. and Constance Decrane on December 27, 1974 at St.Vincent's Hospital in Billings MT. Joseph was a member of the Ties the Bundle Clan and a Child of the Sore Lip Clan his Indian name was Lakotashiila also pronounced Lakota Zi “Yellow Sioux” which was given to him by the late Stacey Stewart Sr. Joseph leaves behind his mother Constance, his loving wife of 11 years Angelita “Angie” Broken Rope and 8 children Nakiah, Miguel, Angel, Joseph III “Baby Joe”, Laila, Melvin, Catalina, Manuel and his adopted son Sergio Nino. His God Children Constance Broken Rope, Tawnie Rhea Broken Rope and Tanika Williams. and t numerous In-Laws. His Brother Thomas Broken Rope adopted brothers Alex Plain Feather, Jason Kills Pretty Enemy, Manuel Flores, Carlos Contrez, Billie Williams, Scott Porter, Marlan “Spooky” Goes Ahead, Melvin Weasel Boy Jr, A.J. Broken Rope, Benjamin Archambault Sr., Emmanuel Archambault, Gregory Archambault, “Gonzo” Williams, and Clyde (Deb) Landrie Sisters Dorinda Broken Rope and Roberta Broken Rope adopted Sisters Beverly Wilson, Jamie Jo Broken Rope, Mikki (Danovan) Mascarena and Angie Porter. Other survivors include his Uncles Alvin (Kathy) Broken Rope, Thomas Decrane, and Frankie Cloud, Stacey “Juno” Stewart Jr. and Ben Cloud. His Aunts Mercy (Daniel)Makes Good, Dorothy (Max) Spotted Bear, Victoria Stewart, Zelda Decrane, and Anna Decrane. Joseph is preceded in death by his father Joseph Broken Rope Sr, Uncles Vine Broken Rope, Frank Broken Broken Rope, Raymond Broken Rope, and John Broken Rope. Aunts Edna Broken Rope and Seraphine Sanchez Decrane. Joseph worked most of his life as a Contractor and a Roofer. He also worked at the Sugar Beet Factory, CDL, and for Josh Hagstrum as a Roofer. He faithfully attended Billings Praise Center with Pastor Dave Morales who took him as a son. Joseph's greatest passion was keeping kids off the street through Boxing. With his brother Manuel Flores they accomplished their lifelong dream by opening Barrio Golden Gloves Boxing League. Barrio Boxing League opened its doors on March 20, 2015 with the help of Coaches Melvin Weasel Boy, Stewart Strever, JR Garcia, Max Miller, Ray Nava, and Leroy Pena. Their first students were his son Miguel, daughter Angel, Demarcus Johnson, Nate Doyle, Isaac Bain, David Wilson, Anthony Wilson, Destiny Small, Kalem Costa, Paulito Nava, all who Joseph took under has wing like his own children. Barrio Boxing League will continue in Joseph's honor Starting with the State Silver Gloves Tournament on December 19-20, 2015 at Garfield Community Center. Joseph's love for boxing began at Baba Boxing Club of Billings (Started by Melvin Weasel Boy Sr.). He boxed in this League starting in 1985 and lasted until 1994. During this time Joseph met his lifelong friends Melvin Weasel Boy Jr, Max Miller, and Leroy Penia. He boxed 60+ ameture fights and won the State Silver Glove many times and he held the Indian National Boxing Title twice He placed 2nd in 1987 and 1st in 1988 . Later in life he continued his love for boxing by participating in the Semi Pro and Pro Boxing League, MMA Fighting, Fusion Fighting League, and Grindhouse with Will Grindhouse. He Still holds the Wyoming Light Heavyweight Title for 185 pound division, He Carried the State Champion Semi Pro Boxing Title in 2007. Joseph also volunteered on many occasions he was always willing to give his free time to help anyone in need. He helped build the church childcare center Little Blessings, He was Santa for many years for many Church and Non-Profit Organization activities. Joseph was a dedicated father he actively participated with his daughters Nakiah and Angel in a Young girl's group called Daughters of Tradition at the Non Profit organization Angela's Piazza. Through his passion to get kids off the streets he helped numerous adults in need. He took many people in need into his home for a hot meal or to shower. Joseph was also very involved in Native American ceremonies he participated in the Crow/Shoshone and Sioux piercing Sundances every Summer. He attended Sweat Lodges regularly and often ran his brother Clyde's Sweat. Joseph also enjoyed Fishing and Hunting with his brothers, wife and kids. Extended family include Goes Ahead, Runs Above, Stewart, Turnsplenty, Weasel Boy, Gonzales, Nava, Contarez. Please accept our apology if we forgot anyone important during our time of grief. Viewing will be Monday 5pm-8pm, Tuesday 11am-4pm Memorial Service at St. Charles Mission Tuesday 7pm, and Funeral Services Wednesday 11am at Garfield School, 3212 1st Ave. South. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel.
