Obituary

Fern Bird Hat-Little Light (Baashchiinbalaxitche – Sings Whiteman Songs Good) of Pryor, Montana went on to join her beloved husband Andrew Little Light April 4th, 2015 at Billings Clinic Aspen Meadows after an extended illness. She was born April 26, 1936 to Sampson and Cecilia Other Black Bird-Bird Hat. She grew up in Pryor, a descendant of Chief BellRock and Chief Bird Hat, Mountain Crows. Fern received her education in Pryor, later she received her GED from Missoula Training Program. She worked as a teacher's aide, cook, homemaker, and crow culture. She received her Associates of Art in Elementary Education in 1978 from Eastern Montana College. Pervious to these years because she excelled in academics she was given an opportunity to attend Bingham Young University in Utah. She loved spending time with her families, a quiet natured woman she always had that special smile to share with everybody. She taught crow culture like beading, language, making moccasins, sewing, etc. She enjoyed being in the great outdoors, berry picking, camping and special occasions. Andrew was devoted husband to Fern for thirty-nine years, from 1975 until the time of his death on October 12th, 2014. She always opened her home to everybody. She was a spiritual woman that went to Catholic, Pentecostal, Native American Churches, and Sweat Lodges, Big Ear Lobe Society, and clan child of Ties the Bundle. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and was asked to sing at various churches in our Pryor community. Her parents, husband Andrew LittleLight, sister's Irene, Gladys, Emma, Florence, and Nancy. Brother's Steven, Edward, and Dallas BirdHat her adopted brother Louis Peshlakia preceded Fern in death. Survivors include her sister Roselee B. Turnsback; sister-in-law Irma Jane Bird Hat and Clara Big Lake; her brother, Chester (Ethel) Bird Hat; brother-in-law Charles DeCrane; adopted daughter, Althea DeCrane and Angela DeCrane; special nephew, Melvin; her grandchildren, Daralynn, Heidi, Embrey BrightWings and Amanda (John); her numerous nieces, Rachel, Joyce, Mary, Berylene, Sunshine (Carl), Pam (Jared), Chamique, Rebecca Stovall and Verena Costa; nephews, Ruben (Christine), Ellsworth (Polly), Lawrence (Martha), Lawrence II (Jennifer) and Robert; special grandchildren that she named and cherished, J.D., Dalson and Niah Stands; and her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Extended families included, Other Black Bird-BirdHat, Bird, Stops, Plain Feather, Real Bird, Moccasins, Flatmouth, Smells, House, Little Owl, Bell Rock, Bad Bear, Medicine Crow, He Does It and Beaumont, Red Star and Not Afraid. Adopted families, Peshlakia and Morris from Indian Wells, AZ. Please accept our apology if we inadvertently failed to mentation any of our extended families. Viewing will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. with vigil to follow starting at 6 p.m., both at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at St. Charles Mission in Pryor with burial in Bird Hat Cemetery.
