Obituary
Eric Alban Gilsrud, 39, died Saturday, June 23, 2012 in Billings, MT after a courageous 1 year 8 month battle with cancer. Eric was born September 28, 1972 in Benson, MN. Eric graduated from Benson Senior High School class of 1991 and North Dakota State University with a Bachelors Degree in Urban Forestry, May 1996. In September of 1998, Eric and Tara Danuser were married on a paddleboat on the St. Croix River, Taylor Falls, MN. Throughout his life he worked for the City of Benson, City of Fargo, and the University of Minnesota. In 2004, Eric and Tara moved to Billings, MT. At the time of his death he was employed as the City Forester for the City of Billings. Eric loved hunting, fishing, target and trap shooting, landscaping, woodworking, downhill skiing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, spending time with his friends and family, and best of all he loved spending time with his hunting dog Jake. Eric will be dearly missed and forever loved by his wife Tara; his beloved dog Jake; parents Roger and Donna Gilsrud; sister Pamela (Duane) Matti; brothers: Rodney and Ronald (Stephanie); parents-in-law Dave and Peggy Foster; father-in-law John Danuser; brother-in-law David (Mary) Danuser; niece Jaylin Danuser; nephews: Eben and Anders Matti, Alex and Noah Danuser; his special uncle Palmer Gilsrud; and so many extended family, friends, and co-workers. Service: Memorial services will be held in Billings, MT at Dahl Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 27 at 10:00 am. There will be a memorial service in Benson, MN at a later date this summer.

Tara, We didn't know Eric real well because it was only at family gatherings that our paths would cross. However, in those scarce times it was easy to see Eric was a man who loved nature and was a steward of the forest. He was a gentle man, a patient and loyal husband and a friend to all family members regardless of time together. We truly wish we could have been there with you for his service and will hold you in our prayers. God be with you. We love you so much. Uncle Bruce and Aunt Marsha.
