Obituary
Roland “Lindy” Barnes Sr., 84, passed away on April 13, 2012 after battling with Pulmonary Embolism at the Billings Health and Rehabilitation. Roland was born in Staten Island, New York on February 5, 1928 to John and Josephine Barnes. Roland didn't need a “bucket list” in life as he achieved and traveled more places than people could imagine early on in life. After attending Curtis High, Roland joined the military forces in both the US Marine Corps and US Army. While serving the US Army his duty was to transport Generals and Colonels to their destinations. He served in France as well as Germany. After receiving an honorable discharge he then worked on the Railroad serving as a Chief Engineer in Colorado. Roland retired from the Railroad at the age of 35 (mandatory then). Roland and his family relocated to Billings, Mt. after visiting his sister. Roland shortly found work in construction with the help of his brother-in-law Charles Dobrenz. He then worked at the Midland Packing House for approximately 8 years. He served as a Union Steward defending the rights of employees and upholding working conditions. After the closing of Midland he was then employed at the Billings Deaconess Hospital for 3 years before being accepted as cable inspector and retiring at the Toole Army Depot. Roland had a love for his family, animals and caramels. Roland married the love of his life and best friend Dorothy on March 17, 1965. She stayed by his side to the very end. Together they produced three loving sons that cared for him to the end. Also, Roland enjoyed his dog “Cleo” with extreme passion. Other interests were making his hair look good. He was an avid hair comber with making sure his “part” was straight with constant trips to the barber who only has razors. All hats off to the Billings Health and Rehab workers. They were most loving, compassionate, caring humans who comforted everyone through the end. They were always there at a moment's notice. He will be surely missed by everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Josephine, brothers Jacky and Vinnie, one sister Madeline, one granddaughter Tiffany. He is survived by Dorothy, three sons Roland Jr. (Traci), Thomas (Lisa), and Timothy (Robin), and daughter Dorothy Jean Prophet, brother Jim Barnes and sisters Ethel, Dorothy and Joan, granddaughters Aubreh, Mranda, Malishyia, Mickaela, Karlie, Sarah, grandsons Thomas Jr., Joey, Timmy and 4 great-grandsons . Service: Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday with Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. April 19, 2012 at the Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at St Pius X Catholic Church with burial to follow at Mountview Cemetery.

Roland, So sorry to hear of your Dad passing away. We know what it is like to lose a parent and our hearts go out to you and your family. Seeing his picture reminds me of all the times he came to watch us play pool. I think he really enjoyed it and we had a lot of fun with him too. We are here for you if you need anything. I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed seeing Roland every morning comming into work. I would catch him taking a cat nap on his way to his room from breakfast. After pushing him there he would say, "Thanks Babe"! I had to chuckle when you mentioned his beautiful locks. Many a time I would see him combing his hair and yes it was PERFECT! My deepest sympathy to all of you. Thank you for allowing us to care for him.
