To Mel's faamily and friends, I was a teammate of Mel's on the Orlando Lacrosse Club for 20 years? Quite a man. He loved the game. And his ever-present bandana under his helmet. As we know from Indian tradition, he will be playing the game in the afterlife! Dave

Mel was a great and loyal friend. I first met him when I joined the Orlando Lacrosse Club and kept in touch since 1989. He took Roger Joe and I to the Bahamas for a dive trip where I had my first taste of conch fresh out of the shell and a pineapple rum drink called a Goombay Smash! We played backgammon and lacrosse on the beach. We also drove together up to Tallahasee to beat up on the younger club players who attended FSU or lived in the area. In later years Mel would teach me about stock options and I would keep him up to date with my family and my triathlon races. He liked to call my office and ask how his "ironman" was doing. I really am going to miss you Mel - a great friend - Natt

While there were many times I assisted Mel when he made a cut in front of the cage, the most memorable time he scored was just a few years ago the year we had a professional box lacrosse team, the Orlando Titans, in town. Mel and I played in a pick up "club level" box league and one evening, the great Casey Powell, a pro outdoor and indoor player on the Titans showed up and played with the group. I mentioned to Casey that Mel had attended and played lacrosse at Syracuse and he made sure to include Mel in his offensive onslaught and Mel got at least two goals off of Casey Powell assists. The smile on both of their faces after the goals was really something special and looking back it was wild to realize he was over 80 at the time!

Mel was unique in every way and by far the most kind and generous man I have ever met. I fondly remember all of the wonderful plane trips to the Bahamas and even co-piloting with him... Yikes! And all of the great dive trips off of the zodiac... wonderful memories. He always had the greatest stories. I can only imagine that heaven just got amazingly better with his entry through the pearly gates! Prayers of comfort and peace to Stephen and your family.
