Joan Louk

Joan A. Redding Louk passed away at her home early Wednesday morning. She was born at home on Sarpy Creek, McRae, Montana, December 5, 1933 to Florence Irene Hoffman Redding and Coil Austin Redding, Sr. She spent her early life in the Sarpy Basin attending Wolf School, graduating from Hardin High School in 1951. After graduation she went to Airline School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She then worked for Capitol Airlines in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, returning to Sarpy Creek to help with the family after her mothers death. She moved to Denver in 1955 and worked for Continental Airlines in Denver for 6-1/2 years. Her government career began in the early 1970s for the Department of Interior in Billings. She retired from the Bureau of Land Management in 1990. She moved to Billings in 1962 and met Ed Louk whom she married on February 16, 1963, in Red Lodge, Montana. Their marriage was solemnized June 1, 1968, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She is survived by her husband Thomas E. Louk (Ed), Billings, her daughter Tomisue Louk of Centerville, UT; 5 brothers, Coil A. Redding, Jr. of Big Horn, MT, Donald G. Redding (Billie) of Hardin, MT, Thomas R. Redding (Ginger) of Ft. Shaw, MT, Leonard F. Redding (Nancy) of Butler, MO, Gerald Redding (Sandi) of West Valley City, UT; 4 sisters, Florence L. Kovis of Garden City, ID, Dorothy J. Demaree (Norris) of Billings, MT, Judith I. Reed (Ronnie) of Phoenix, AZ and Billings, MT, and Patricia M. Evanson (Jerold) of Sandy, UT, a sister-in-law Charlotte Redding of Ogden, UT, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Richard L. Redding and a sister, Shirley V. Redding. Joan had several hobbies, particularly sewing, quilting and her huge bed of irises. She was the go to person for baby quilts. She made them for most of her many, many nieces and nephews and for numerous coworkers. She was an avid New York Yankees fan. Joan was a very generous and selfless person. Her husband and daughter were her world. She raised two of her sisters, Judy and Pat, from their early teens through graduation, good practice in raising her own daughter. She served in various callings in the LDS church but loved the primary children the most. Memorials: The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Childrens Miracle Network by either Childrensmiraclenetwork.org or 205 West 700 South Salt Lake City UT 84101 with a note of “in memory of Joan A. Louk”. Cemetery: Interment in Mountview Cemetery immediately following the funeral services. Visitation: Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Dahl Chapel. Service: Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28th at the LDS Stake Center at 1640 Broadmoor in Billings.
