Joan Burns

Joan was born June 5, 1938 in Crow Agency to Robert Jr. (Jiggs) Yellowtail and Jeanette Burns, the oldest of four girls. She received her education in Crow Agency, St. Xavier Mission, and Hardin graduating from the Acme School of Cosmetology. Though working in Minnesota, Georgia, and Las Vegas as a nanny, cooking was her favorite job. An excellent cook, she worked her magic in ranch kitchens in Big Horn County, Las Vegas, and Bozeman. In her younger years, Joan loved to travel, her favorite place being Nashville, Tenn. where she enjoyed listening to Western music until she heard Elvis Presleys sing. He quickly became her favorite his memorabilia dominated her home. Joan was a woman of great strength worshipping regularly at St. Patricks Co-Cathedral where she was a member for years. Joan loved animals, especially cats. Joan loved visiting on the phone with her family and friends whom she regularly checked in on. Joan was married and later divorced. She leaves behind her sisters: Roberta Rose and Helen Wiseman of Hardin, Loretta Burns of Billings; nieces: Robyn Spaulding (Dick Lawrence) and families, Kelly & John Ferguson, Greg & Lisa Vandersloot, Allison & Robert Pederson and families, Kristi & Tracy Robertson and family, Ellen and Allen Kautzman and family, Colleen and Kelly Crowe and family; beloved cat, Smokey; dear friends: Noreen, Margie, Vicky and Stacey and all those who resided at South Forty where she spent her last days; uncles Robert Dyckman, and John Burns of CA. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; grandparents: John and Minnie Burns and Robbie and Maggie Yellowtail. Cemetery: Burial of ashes in Fairview Cemetery, Hardin at later date. Visitation: Viewing will take place 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, December 17th at Dahl Chapel Billings. Service: A funeral service will be held at Dahl Chapel Saturday, December 18th.
