Julie Rowen
February 26, 1952 - May 16, 2025
Obituary
Julie Ann Rowen, eldest daughter of Nicholas Lawrence Schneider and Mary Patricia Scott, was born in Sidney, Montana on February 26, 1952. She passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving children, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, cherished family members, and her Savior.
Julie attended Billings Central Catholic High School and excelled in academics graduating as Salutatorian in 1970. She attended Gonzaga University for two years and transferred to study nursing at the University of Colorado graduating in 1974. Julie was a Registered Nurse and worked at Denver General Hospital and St. Anthony's Hospital in Colorado. Later on in her career, she worked at Pfizer, a cardiology practice in Virginia and at Billings Clinic in Montana. She enjoyed medicine and delivering quality care to patients. While she was an excellent nurse, she was first and foremost the most wonderful mother. Close friends called her a role model that taught them how to mother.
Julie met Scott Carlton Rowen through mutual friends, Rich and Carrie Mountain in Denver, Colorado and the two married on June 14, 1980 in Billings, Montana. Julie and Scott lived in Redondo Beach, California for 15 years where they raised their three children Matt, Sean, and Lisa before moving to Virginia outside of the nation's capital where they resided for 15 years. Julie and Scott returned to Billings, Montana in 2010. Julie, a loving wife and devoted caregiver, cared for Scott during his long battle with Alzheimer's.
Julie enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, traveling abroad and throughout the United States, cooking, different cuisines, and learning salsa dancing. Strong, selfless, and humble, Julie was an incredible woman. Her light will truly be missed in this world.
Julie is survived by her children, Matthew Rowen of Tupelo, MS, Sean (Amanda) Rowen of Vancouver, WA, and Lisa Rowen of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Henry, Matilda, Scott and Brendan; granddog, Nala; brothers Nick (Mimi) Schneider of Billings, MT and Allan (Kathy) Schneider of The Woodlands, TX; sister Mary Sue Engel of Billings, MT; sister-in-law Valerie Rowen; aunt Kathleen Bettise, cousins Cheryl Ikeda and Lynn Bersin and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She deeply loved and cherished her time with her grandchildren and family.
The Rowen family extends their appreciation and gratitude to the medical staff that aided Julie in her tremendous two year and eight month fight against pancreatic cancer, especially at Frontier Cancer Center in Billings, Montana; UCHealth Anschutz in Aurora, Colorado and their incredible nurses in the CARE Clinic; and the Sarah Cannon Research Institute in Denver, Colorado. Julie and I worked together at Pfizer 20 years ago. She was a lovely person and I am so saddened to read of her passing. Over the years I’ve seen her on Facebook but had no idea of her battle with cancer. I will keep the family in my prayers. (Linda Lewis)

I had the honor of working with Julie At Virginia Heart. She was one of my favorite nurses and was so kind and compassionate. I was fortunate to know her and count her as a friend ❤️

My first memories of Julie as a big sister of one of my best fiends. She was so smart, kind, and actually talked to me! She was 3 years older, and more worldly. Julie continued to be nice to all of us annoying younger girls. Time goes by and Julie is off to Gonzaga University in Spokane! If Gonzaga was good enough for Julie, that’s where I was going to college. I did go to Gonzaga, but then Juli had transferred. How’s, when I did go to Gonzaga I met so May who had known Julie Schneider, and I had an in! They thought she was amazing, and they were right!
