Cheri Norton

Cheri Norton, our beautiful, caring, and loving mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife, left this world to find peace on the morning of May 23, 2025.

Cheri L. Norton was born in Brookings, South Dakota on November 9th, 1955. Growing up, Cheri spent the majority of her childhood in Rapid City, South Dakota. In her early adulthood, she moved to Billings, Montana, and worked at Midland Packing. It is there where she met the love of her life, Bruce Norton, whom she later wed in 1981.

While raising her family, Cheri worked as a manager for the Steiner Corporation and as an assistant manager at various hotels around the Billings area. During her early years with Bruce, Cheri was always the life of the party, playing pranks and joking with friends and family. Music played a large part in Cheri’s life. Whether it was listening to Bruce’s band ‘Roadhouse’, or listening to records on a loop, her top choices being Rod Stewart, The Eagles, and Bob Seger.

Through the years, Cheri enjoyed riding on the back of Bruce’s Harley Davidson, watching movies (preferably starring Johnny Depp), and attending local Happy Hours. Cheri was devoted to her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, who affectionately called her ‘Grandma Donut’. In true grandmotherly fashion, she would indulge family with never-ending treats and home-baked goodies. She and Bruce doted on their grandkids, attending all their sports games, concerts, and milestone celebrations. Several happy Summers were spent with family at the state fair, vacationing at Heart Ranch, and Hill City South Dakota. Each trip to Heart Ranch was captured by the family’s tradition of an old-timey photo at Rattlesnake Jakes. Later in life, Cheri stuck close to home, spending her free time with her dogs, husband Bruce, and visits with the family.

Cheri joined her parents Charlie and Eyvonne (Dale Depaul), and siblings Aaron Sorenson and Shellie Matson in the next world. She is survived by her sons Darell (Crystal) Hopson, Chad (Nicole) Norton, Ryan (Carrie) Hopson, and Kelly (Sarah) Norton as well as her grandchildren Chris, Taylor, Darell Jr., Jaedon, Chavis, Salina, Rylie, Lily, and Molly along with 4 great-grandchildren.
