Timothy Haupt

December 26, 1956 - August 09, 2025

Obituary

Timothy Matthew Haupt unfortunately lost his battle against cancer on Saturday, August 9th, 2025. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.

Tim was born on December 26, 1956, to William “Bill” Joseph Haupt and Angela Marcella Bertsch Haupt in Devils Lake, North Dakota.  Raised in Billings, he had plenty of friends he had palled around with on the North Side.  From his early days, Tim was a renegade.  When he wanted something, he went after it.  He graduated from Senior High School in 1975.

Tim met the love of his life, Mary Ann Gray in junior high.  Their hearts were forever tethered from that moment on.  They married on December 4th, 1976.  Set to celebrate 49 years of wedded bliss this December.  Tim’s story wouldn’t be complete without Mary.

Tim believed in the value of honesty and hard work.  He was employed by Archie Cochrane Ford for 11 years in the body shop.  His career at Allstate Insurance spanned 31 years in various positions, climbing the corporate ladder.  Life threw him a curveball, and he became a restaurateur in October 2010. You could see Tim smiling at the counter at Sam and Louie’s New York Pizzeria until the restaurant closed in March 2020.  It was a family affair and resulted in an unmatched life experience and countless new friends.  We joke that all he did at the restaurant was stand at the counter and talk to the people.

Tim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach, and friend.  He touched the lives of many with his sense of humor and uncanny ability to connect with anyone.  He loved playing slow-pitch softball, lobbing the ball across the plate as the pitcher.  Tim enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing.  One of his true passions was football.  Go Steelers!  He coached Little Guy Football for 20 years and helped countless youths in Billings learn to love the game like he did.  One of his proudest accomplishments was growing the league into a bigger and more professional program during his five years as president.  He loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Tim has three surviving children whom he cherished deeply.  His children gave him strength during the rough times and laughter and joy all the time.  Matthew, the eldest, inherited Tim’s artistic abilities and compassion.  Tara, the middle, is the female version of her dad.  Brittany, the youngest, has her dad’s hard work ethic.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Bill Haupt, and daughter Nichole Laura Haupt.

Tim Haupt is survived by his wife, Mary Haupt of Billings, MT, his children: Matthew Haupt (and soon-to-be wife Debbie Alvarez) of Billings, MT; Tara DeHaan (and husband Harrison DeHaan) of Payson, AZ; and Brittany Haupt-Eby (and husband Ted Eby) of Billings, MT; his grandchildren Wayne Eby and Harlan DeHaan; and his mother, Angela Haupt of Billings, MT.

He is also survived by his sister Bernadette Clevenger (and husband Skip Clevenger) of Hamilton, MT; his brother Keith Haupt (and wife Angie Haupt) of Snohomish, WA; and numerous nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations directly to the American Cancer Society.

Tim’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings, MT on Friday, August 15th at 1:00 PM.  Reception to follow.
