Obituary

Frances (Fran) Marie Otterstetter Lagerquist was born in Wolf Point, Montana on May 7, 1943.  She was the oldest of nine children born to John and Blanche (Griggs) Otterstetter.

She was raised with the grit and determination within two homesteader families.  They grew up poor, but love of family made them rich.

She met Glenn Lagerquist while she and her best friend were picking lilacs.  She fell in love immediately and they were married in Mt Vernon, Washington on August 29, 1958.  Together they had six children.

She worked tirelessly, putting her own needs aside to care for her family, especially her three sons with Muscular Dystrophy.

After her husband died, Fran went to work for the Billings Clinic as a housekeeper.  Everyone who knew her experienced Fran’s free spirit and joy of life.  She valued each relationship.  She could have retired at 18 years of service, but she set a goal for herself.  She wanted to make the milestone of 20 years of employment.  She made her goal and retired in 2021.

Fran passed away on April 24, 2026 in Billings from a 10-month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy (John) Haigh, Brenda (John) Glass, and Penny Lagerquist; grandchildren, Katrina (Dallas) Sluder; Jay Baker, Jason Baker, Karisa Boyington; Laurel Glass, Mathern Glass; and JD Palmen; and 11 great-grandchildren, Madison, Skylar, Taytum, Autumn, Jordan, Tristany, Brayden, Bailey, Ollie, Tommie and Amelia; sisters, Rae Jean Koch, Bonnie Moore; brother, Michael (Julia) Otterstetter; her favorite brother-in-law, Jeff Morrison; treasured friend, Debbie Smeathers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Lagerquist; her sons, Larry, Tom, and Chris; her parents, John and Blanche; sisters, Linda and Wanda; brothers, Jacky, David and Kelly.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held May 12th at 2 p.m. at Dahl’s Funeral Chapel.

The family wishes to thank the caring and compassionate staff of Good Day Assisted Living for creating such a loving place for Mom in her final months.
