Janice Buehler

Janice A. Buehler was born September 24, 1938, to Macie and John Ward of LaGrande, Oregon. She died on August 19, 2025.

Janice was the youngest of four children. Following high school graduation, Janice earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Oregon Health and Sciences University, a master’s degree from University of Colorado, Boulder, and a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, San Francisco.

Janice married Dr. Roy Buehler, and they enjoyed all the opportunities that the San Francisco Bay Area had to offer for many years. Roy and Janice moved to 118 Crestline Dr. in Billings in 1992, where Janice lived until her death on Aug. 19, 2025.

Improving rural healthcare, supporting the Democratic Party, Native American History and Art and Big Brothers/Big Sisters were among her many interests. It was 31 years ago that Big Brothers/Big Sisters matched her with a young Simon Karls, who visited from his home in Washington state just days before her passing. 

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her three siblings, her husband and her stepson, George Buehler.

Janice is survived by her stepdaughter Molly (Michael) Collins. She also leaves behind many friends, including Carolyn Wenger, Vonna Branum, Stacie Smith, Marla Lord, Nancy Kranz and Simon Karls. In addition, Janice is survived by her beloved cat, Barry.
