Obituary

Betty Jane Conley Simpson

Betty walked up the stairs and entered the Pearly Gates of Heaven on September 3, 2025, at the age of 92.

Betty was born in Joliet, MT on July 11, 1933, to Jack and Hattie McFate.  She met Darrell Conley at church in Park City, MT in 1950 and they were married in Billings Montana in 1951.

The couple had 10 children James, Carl, Robert, Dan, Betty Joy, Jeanne, Danice, Darrell Ray Jr., Kenny, and Beth.

The couple moved all over the United States for Darrell’s work, but Betty always made sure she found a church in every town for her and her kids to worship every Sunday.  As a devout and faithful servant to our Lord and Savior, Betty made sure to instill a strong foundation in all her children and they were raised to love the Lord and follow his commandments.

In 1983, Darrell passed while visiting his sons and family in Wyoming.

Betty continued to live in Saco Montana and married again to Elwood Simpson in 1986.  Betty was a loyal member of the Assembly of God Church in Saco and was very dedicated to her church and the congregation.

In 2003, Elwood passed.  Betty moved to an apartment in Malta Montana.  She became a member of the Malta Assemble of God church where she remained a member and on the board until her death.  Betty’s church family was always very important to her; she never missed her tithes or missionary donation every month.

Betty lived on her own in Malta and was very active in the community until the age of 88, at which time her children decided to move her to assisted living in Billings to be closer to her daughters.

In 2021, Betty moved to The Springs at Grand Park.  She was involved in every activity the Springs offered and was especially excited about bingo. She would tell her children all about her wins. She discovered she was an artist while living at the Springs and painted many pictures for her children and grandchildren who will treasure them forever.

Betty was a dedicated mother and made nightly calls to all her children just to say good night and tell them about her day, bingo wins and losses, and any other events of the day.  Even though it was a struggle at times, she made these calls up until the very end.

Betty was an inspiration to everyone who met her, she lived her live dedicated to her Lord.  Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and others depended on her for her knowledge of the Bible, her prayers, and her listening ear when they just needed someone to listen.  If anyone needed prayers we knew who to call.  She prayed for many and to the very end, she was witnessing to everyone and giving guidance.

Betty taught her children the importance of a firm relationship with the Lord and proved through example the Lord’s grace, forgiveness, and Love for them all.  This guidance has been their foundation their entire lives.

Betty sang a very special Christian based birthday song to her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and everyone who was special to her. After so many years of hearing this song, everyone knew it by heart.

Betty is survived by her children: sons, Dan (Brenda) Conley of Lufkin, Texas, Darrell Ray Conley Jr (Lisa) of Slaterville, Utah.  Daughters, Betty Joy Peck of Columbus, Texas, Danice (Buddy) Thomen, and Beth (Jimmy) Bailey of Billings, Montana.  29 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren.  Brothers Alvin (Bonnie) McFate, and David McFate.

Betty was preceded in death by her children James Conley, Carl Conley, Robert Conley, Kenny Conley, and Jeanne Miller.  Both husbands Darrell Conley, Elwood Simpson, and brothers Walt McFate, Johnny McFate, Richard McFate, Patrick McFate, Mike McFate, and Jim McFate.

There will be a celebration of life Memorial Day weekend 2026.

More information will be sent at a later date.
