Roman Pereda Castro
August 9, 1939 – September 6, 2025
Roman Pereda Castro, 86, of Billings, Montana, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 9, 1939, in Durango, Mexico, Roman was the son of Feliciano Castro and Feleberta Pereda.
Roman spent his early years in Mexico, where he attended school and built the foundation of the hardworking and kind man he would become. In 1969, he moved to the United States in pursuit of new opportunities and a better future. He settled in the Billings area, where he worked tirelessly on various farms and became a valued member of the community.
In 1972, Roman married Elizabeth Ramirez, and together they built a family and life full of memories until their separation in 1992. In 1981, Roman pursued his entrepreneurial dream and opened Old El Paso, a beloved family restaurant in Billings, followed by Domingo’s Lobby Café. He retired in 1989, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and passion for his work.
Roman was a man who loved life and cherished time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing trips with his grandchildren, gardening, and traveling to Mexico to visit loved ones. His love for fiestas, music, and dancing brought joy to many, and his warm, welcoming nature made him a friend to all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Feliciano and Feleberta; four siblings; a grandson; a son; and a daughter.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Elizabeth Ramirez; his daughter Jeanette; his son Domingo (Marta); his sister Ascension; his brothers Gabriel (Mona) of California and Atilano (Teodora) of Chicago. Roman is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his memory, stories, and love.
Roman Pereda Castro will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering love for family, his infectious joy, and the legacy he leaves behind.
A viewing for Roman will be held on Monday September 15, 2025 from 5-7 pm at Dahl Funeral Chapel (10 Yellowstone Avenue, Billings, MT 59101)
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday September 17, 2025 at 11 am at Dahl Funeral Chapel with a burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery (1601 Mullowney Lane, Billings, MT 59102)
